PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD. THIS HAS TO STOP. We like to keep our posts here upbeat, but we would be doing the community a disservice if we did not share this impor...tant information: We lost two patients this past week due to rat poisoning. The hawk we posted a picture of today didn’t make it and it was confirmed she was poisoned. Earlier this week, we were up all night trying to save a pregnant raccoon who eventually succumbed to rat poisoning. Her babies were lost as well . Guys we HAVE to stop using this stuff. When we poison rodents, we poising the animals that eat the rodents, therefore compounding the rodent issue to begin with. One bird of prey will eat around 1000 rodents in a year. If you feel you must kill the rodents in or around your home or work place, there are many other ways that don’t effect the rest of the food chain. In memory of this beautiful red tailed hawk and this sweet mama raccoon, let’s make sure we let our friends and family know never to use rodenticide.

It is with the greatest of sadness that I learned today of the passing of one of lifes' incredible wonders...Katherine 'Kay' McKeever. If you haven't heard of her, just google her name and you will learn so very much about rehabilitation. Kay was on the ground floor of rehabbing. Her choice was owls. People called her from all over the world for her advice. I was there when she got calls from Russia, Germany and some arab country. She was my mentor...my friend... I will mi...ss her so very much, but she will never be forgotten as I will talk about her for as long as I have the breath to do so. She taught me so much, but she was never pretentious and she never was one to tolerate fools. Many a night I would spend with her over a cuppa discussing things about birds and how to 'fix' them. Sometimes I would go to her with a bird that I just didn't know if I could help...some how hoping she might find the way...yet even she was not that kind of miracle worker. But she would do the 'dirty deed' and give the bird peace and then we would talk it out. She helped me through a lot of times like that. She did owls, I did diurnal raptors. Ann Yagi introduced us and told Kay that I was the best hope for a diurnal raptor centre in the Niagara Area. Kay wanted to have the Owl Foundation strictly for owls. Our first meeting went for 5 hours...a meeting that was suppose to be an hour long. Kay had a sense of humour and loved to relate stories. She had many...to me the best one was Jimmy Carter's visit. She once told me that the amount of knowledge she had about owls could fit on top of a pin. When I balked at that idea (because she'd been doing this for almost 40 years) she told me, "you never stop learning...if you do your brain has died." I came to love Kay as one does with good friends. Through her friendship I gained another who is so very much like Kay...that's a heart felt compliment Kara Kristjanson. She once told me that she hoped when she died that she would once again be with her many birds she'd had over the years and her beautiful Irish Wolfhounds and her Larry. I can picture you now Kay, walking with Hamish loping in front, owls circling around your head and you holding Larry's hand and him saying, "so, how many more birds are we expecting?" Peace and happiness in eternity Kay McKeever. Thank you for changing and enhancing my life... See more

Only take them from their nest area if injury is there. Thank you.

Bald Eagles are dedicated to their nest site. Every year they return to the same spot, and "remodel" by adding more sticks, so the nest gets taller and wider th...e longer the pair returns. This nest was found at the Sauerheber Unit of Sloughs WMA in western Henderson County. We can only imagine how long the Eagles have been there! See more

I fear for these birds and the upset in the eco-system that will come with their descimation. By the things read, I think the government will go ahead with the outline of this hunt (although I am hoping for a miracle) and once again prove that money is the thing that matters most.

Democratic congressman Joe Cunningham interrupted a house committee hearing with a 120-decibel airhorn after a Trump administration official insisted air-gun testing to locate oil underwater would have no impact on whales, who rely on echolocation to hunt and communicate.
