Marcia is a fairly new educator with us here in the Valley. I love her recent dojo post presenting the fun invitation she set up for the children. I love how she took note of how the children wanted this same book over and over. Marcia extended the children's interest and brought this book to life for them including the book, water play and props! Wonderful work Marcia! -Tammy

I created a new fun tree in our tuff tray today. We used train tracks,pine cones, acorns and leaves all collected from our adventures in the arts and cultural park The small signs ask the children how many pine ones and acorns can you find? -Courtney

We have been exploring colors in preschooltoday we did a little experiment to see what colors we could mix together to make orange. We then enjoyed mixing other colors together to see what new colors we could make. -Amanda

This morning in Room 10 we had so much fun exploring and creating with different textures. Isela made these surprise bags for the children, filled with many different materials of different textures. We put some glue on paper and set out the surprise bags..the children peeked into their bags and SURPRISE, they were so excited and curious about the materials inside! They pulled out the materials, exploring them through their sense of touch. They then placed, threw, scrunched, and patted the materials onto the paper to create beautiful 3D masterpieces -Jessica

My children have found a love of snails and slugs! Its perfect timing as it goes along with our letter sound "S". Yesterday we were able to find an audio book called "Norman the snail" which prompted us to design our own snails with beautiful shells. Happy Friday!... -Barb

Today in our morning meeting we learned all about different jungle habitats like rainforests, grasslands and deserts! After a few fun facts about giraffes, elephants and zebras we decided to paint making animals tracks! -Alison

Are you ready to PLAY?!

The children were engaged with this simple activity set out for them when they awoke from quiet/nap time. There was lots of discussion what was being created... Winnie: I'm putting the spoon in the paint. Educator: what happened when you put the spoon in the paint? Winnie: I'm mixing colours.... Educator: oh, what colour are you mixing? Winnie: red. Educator:what will you do when your done mixing? Winnie: making eggs (as she dunks the styrofoam ball in the paint). Winnie: holding styrofoam ball up to educator saying "open it up" Educator:I dont think it opens. Winnie: oh it doesnt open. The children were communicating with educators as well as other friends through this play. They were sharing and passing the materials to one another providing each friend an opportunity to measure the materials. They had lots of fun with this activity and really let their imaginations fly. -Jodie

In order to write letters and words, children must first and simultaneously strengthen and advance their fine motor skills. In these invitations, you can see the focus on working those small hand and arm muscles for beginning to form lines, swirls and dips all required for letter writing. Before you know it, the letters will be forming!

It was an 80s dance party in the Valley yesterday celebrating our end of our summer programming with the school-age children! We feel so fortunate each summer to have extended time with school age kiddos and miss them when they go back to school. We got this ... Children love water play! This was an educational and enjoyable activity in so many different ways. We worked on our fine motor skills by dipping our paint brushes into the water and learning how to hold onto our brushes. We also improved our pre-writing/mark-making skills by using our imagination and thoughts to create patterns and designs onto our paper. -Jenna
