OSAC has a strong membership represented from many communities across the province. Today we highlight the Dekker Centre The DCPA is a community-based, civic asset designed to build and foster cultural vitality in the City of North Battleford (Official) and surrounding area. The Dekker Centre is one of four buildings in the CUPlex- a multipurpose facility owned by the City of North Battleford. The CUPlex is comprised of the Dekker Centre, a curling rink, a fieldhouse and a... swimming pool. The Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts is an incorporated non-profit charity that leases the building from the City of North Battleford. Since 2018, the Dekker Centre has been an umbrella organization of the Battlefords Allied Arts Council and presents performing arts on the council’s behalf. The Dekker Centre values its relationship with OSAC and sees immense value in working together to bring diverse performing arts to our community! The Dekker Centre has three unique spaces that we utilize: The Dr. James Lawrence Hall o A 3000 sq ft multipurpose hall with a sprung floor The Evelyn Ulmer Atrium o A 3000 sq ft atrium with floor to ceiling class windows on the south side The Gordon Tootoosis Memorial Theatre o A 384-seat proscenium arch theatre The Dekker Centre usually programs between 15-20 professional shows per season and uses all three spaces to create unique presenting opportunities. Our organization is committed to presenting diverse work that features BIPOC artists, gender diversity and a variety of performing arts for all members of our community. Before COVID- 19, the Dekker Centre Young People’s Theatre Ensemble was launched. This was a unique collaboration between numerous agencies to bring a group of students together from all three High Schools to create a Collective Creation about a topic of concern. This was our first educational based program, and we are hoping to be able to re-launch in 2022. During the pandemic, the Dekker Centre, like many live event venues across Canada has moved to virtual programming. In January we collaborated with Battlefords Untapped, a podcast in the Battlefords whose purpose is to share positive stories about people and organizations in our community. Together with Untapped, we created On Dekk- a podcast with an artistic twist! We are recording (audio and video) interviews with performing artists from the Battlefords, learning about their work and what it is like to create in our community! We are recording two interviews a month; one of the interviews is immediately followed by a Live Stream performance. The Dekker Centre has found silver linings within the pandemic. We are able to present our local artists, as well as being given additional time to plan for the future. In this unusual time of less live events, we have been able to dive into a large-scale market research project. Member, Dekker Centre

Stegner House in Eastend Arts Council / Wallace Stegner House is one of Canada’s first artist/writer residency programs, situated in the childhood home of renowned environmentalist and Pulitzer prize winner, Wallace Stegner. Wallace Stegner House is operated entirely by local volunteers from the community of Eastend, Saskatchewan (pop. 503). Over 30 years the House has hosted over 250 artists. Wallace Stegner House stands as a remarkable model for what living heritage can ...be in our country. It is one of six remaining Canadian community-operated artist/writer residencies situated in the home of a renowned writer/artist. The community has started a GoFundMe campaign, because, in these times, Stegner House needs help to stay afloat! Donate here: https://charity.gofundme.com//campa/stegnerhousefundraiser

OSAC has a strong membership represented from many communities across the province. Today we highlight the Luseland Arts Council. For 40 years, the community of Luseland has had the privilege of attending wonderful concerts brought to Luseland by the Arts Council. With Vi Scheidt as the driving force, the following were members of the first Arts Council Board: Jean Gottfried, Betty Huck, Marilyn Kennedy, Francois Fournier (Rec Director), and Carol Hoff. ... That courageous group of people hired Ken Mitchell and the Dumptrucks in 1979 for the first show at a cost of $3.50 per person at the door. The next fall, they booked a season with a ticket price of $10.00. Over the next 40 years, there have been over 120 Shows. There has been an amazing variety of shows over the years Marionettes, live theatre, country to classical music, with a wide variety of performers. It has been a wonderful 40 years however, it has been successful only because of our local audience who has stuck with us - sometimes the show may not be their cup of tea, but they come back again. As a community of only 550 people, it is a testament to the dedication of both the board and the audience that we continue to be very successful with such a small community base.
