Just received our first order of True Earth laundry Eco-strips. No more plastic jugs going into the blue bin to most likely end up in a landfill. Can’t wait... to try them out. https://www.tru.earth Canadian company, even better!

Great news! Our Styrofoam Recycling Bin is already being used (see actual pic of our bin with the green check mark) A few answers to some questions that came up... during our last meeting. 1- The Belleville company that ultimately takes the styrofoam, what to they make and or what is the final product? The loose clean Styrofoam is fed into a hopper of a cold densifier, is processed, and the end product is a 8x 8 x 4’ block. It would take roughly a tractor trailer load of loose Styrofoam to produce 1 skid of these blocks. Their current market is made up of approximately 90% Quebec, for which there are companies there that manufacture picture frames and crown molding from the blocks. The balance goes to other similar products. 2- If styrofoam from grocery stores/restaurants are washed with soap and water are they considered clean and acceptable? It is not a question of meat or produce foam trays being clean, it’s a matter of the recycler having to certify the contents of the densified blocks to the buyer, and that there are no food grade products in the densified blocks. The trays in question are food grade. So please no food grade styrofoam in the bin! More reason to ask your favourite restaurants to apply for the styrofoam packaging grant and make the switch to biodegradable and to ask your local grocery stores for alternatives.
