Good morning! We haven't been posting as much lately, but I came across this article this morning, and it is quite interesting! We are proud supporters of Pet Trust at the Ontario Veterinary College, and love to see this kind of research helping both our patients, as well as helping to treat forms of cancer in humans! https://ovc.uoguelph.ca/pettrust/news/beloved-bella

UPDATE ON CLINIC PROTOCOL!! Good evening! As Ontario moves through the re-opening phases, we are continually adjusting our clinic protocols as recommended by the Ontario Government, and the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association. As you know, we have been restricting clinic access to staff only, but we will change this as of TOMORROW!! HERE ARE THE DETAILS: Like most businesses, we will allow limited entry, which means that each appointment may be accompanied by ONE pers...on. Masks are required, and we will likewise wear masks during all interactions with the public. Staff will perform all patient restraint to avoid close contact (sometimes we have to get REALLY close!), and clients will be asked to remain seated in the provided chair. HERE’S HOW THE LOGISTICS WILL WORK: Please TEXT us at 519-842-7845 to let us know you have arrived. If you do not have a cell phone, you can check in with the staff member at the door. We will notify you when it is your turn (when there is an exam room available), and you will be able to come in to the clinic. WHAT ABOUT PICKING UP FOOD OR MEDICATIONS? Please still call us in advance so that we can have it ready for you (1-2 business days if possible!). Likewise, please TEXT on arrival, or notify the staff member at the door. If there is no one in the reception area, you can come in to pay, but we still encourage prepaying for all med or food pick ups. As a final note, please be kind! Everyone has experienced these unprecedented circumstances, and we are doing our very best to be available for our beloved patients. We are very sad to have to say this, but being mean to our staff will not be tolerated! We are looking forward to seeing YOU and your pet!! Love, Ostrander Veterinary Clinic

This is Bentley, one of my patients! (He also happens to belong to my sister). Bentley was losing weight, but seemed to be feeling ok and had normal blood work. Thankfully, myself and all the other veterinarians in our practice have been working hard to learn ultrasonography over the past two years. Thanks to an ultrasound, we were able to solve the mystery before it was too late! Bentley has intestinal lymphoma, and is responding well to his treatment! I wouldn’t say he’s the most grateful patient (hisses at me every time) but I love him anyway . Did you know that ultrasonography is a service we offer?

Good morning! Please note that our clinic will be CLOSED FOR ONE HOUR on Monday July 13 for a staff meeting. This will be from 12:30-1:30 pm. We will return phone calls and messages when we return to normal service. We also did a senior pet post a while ago, so let’s see those babies now!

We are heartbroken to report this! Our thoughts and condolences go out to Sophie’s family. Thank you to all of those who helped search for her and watched the fields and roads for her, to Kim for coordinating search efforts, and to Dr Karla for helping today.

Please keeping watching for Sophie!

Good morning! We need your help! Unfortunately, one of our worst nightmares happened yesterday. This little lady slipped her double leashes in our parking lot and took off for the woods to the east of the clinic yesterday. She is extremely timid and will not come to you if called. Please do not approach her or try to catch her, but please call or text us at 519-842-7845 or to the owner listed below with a location if you see her.

UPDATE! We know that it is very frustrating that at times our clients cannot get through on the phone, and believe me, this frustrates us too! We know that sometimes when you call, the phone rings and rings and rings, and it seems like we aren’t answering, but this isn’t the case. We have worked with Bell and our internal phone system manager, and figured out the phone problem! Hopefully we will get this resolved on Monday! For now though, please be patient with us, we are... doing the best we can with the situation! Text us at 519-842-7845 or email [email protected]. We can only reply during business hours of course. On another note, I have been doing some gardening in the past few weeks with my senior dogs hanging out close by. I don’t remember her face always being so gray! Anyone have any photos to share of your seniors?

Ostrander Veterinary Clinic 16.06.2020

Yes we are still here! We have heard that you are having trouble getting through to us on the phones. We are so sorry, and have been repeatedly in touch with Bell trying to find out why this is happening, but with no success. Please be patient with us while we try to get this sorted out...you can text the main clinic phone number (519-842-7845), or email is ([email protected]). We are here to help you!!

Oh dear! Some of us are working from home on the days we are not in the clinic. I have personally experienced some of these situations!!

COVID-19 UPDATE! Well here we are, time to start the process of expanding our services again! Our provincial association has given us the ok to start seeing wellness patients again, and to start scheduling elective surgeries! . They have also made it clear however, that we still absolutely must keep our doors locked and continue with curbside service. We sure know how hard it is to see your loved one go into the clinic without you, but please be assured that they are gett...ing so much extra love in there!! There will be some photos soon... As we start the process of scheduling all of the wellness appointments and non-emergency procedures that have been postponed over the past two months, please know that we are trying very hard to be fair and efficient in this process! Our software allows us to make sure that no one is missed, and book every patient in turn. We will be sending out emails very soon with the first phase of appointments (and calling those that do not have email), but you sure can touch base with us if you have a more urgent concern!. We are also still using a Team system, so not all veterinarians are available every day. Our veterinarians and support staff really miss all of you, and we care about each and every one of our patients! While we are still probably a long way from normal, we are at least thrilled that we can now see more than emergencies! See you soon!! Bonus: photo of our friend Bella today, who was peeking over the door watching the action!

Hi there! It’s a pretty gloomy day, so it’s probably extra tough to be at home. Just remember that we are here for you and your pets! Could we see some of those lovely little pets’ faces? We miss them! I will start with one of the staff pets. This is Ruby on a much sunnier day!

Good afternoon! Please read this post in its entirety! As we all navigate the changes necessary to contain COVID-19, we would like to outline our current protocols to deal with this. Our goals are to keep our staff safe, while still providing for the needs of our patients. 1. We have postponed all elective procedures to reduce risk of exposure and to reduce our use of gloves and masks, which are in short supply. ... 2. We have rescheduled wellness appointments unless there is an urgent concern. 3. We are no longer allowing anyone other than staff into the building and our front door is now locked. This means that when you arrive for an urgent appointment or to pick up food/medications, you need to call us to let us know that you have arrived. Please see more on this below. This is a difficult time and our staff and veterinarians are to be commended for their dedication in providing care for your pets. Here is what we are asking of you to help us continue to do this: 1. If you have traveled outside of Canada in the past 14 days, PLEASE STAY HOME. If your pet needs to see us for an urgent health problem, please call us to arrange this and have someone else bring your pet for you. 2. If we need to examine your pet, make sure that your dog is on a secure leash and collar or harness, and that your cat is in a secure carrier. We want them to be safe when they come with us from your car into the clinic. Again, you will not be allowed into the building. No exceptions. 3. If you need to order food for your pet, please order it well ahead of when it is needed, but not in excess!! It now takes 7-10 days for these orders to be processed because of increased demand. 4. If you need medication for your pet, please call 1-2 business days ahead and be prepared to pay for this over the phone with a credit card. If the medication your pet needs is a special order, please allow 5-7 business days. 5. Please be kind to us! This is a very difficult time, and we are experiencing the frustrations of all of these changes. We are working hard to make ourselves efficient with this new way of life, and ask for your patience. Sincerely, Ostrander Veterinary Clinic
