Looking for beluga whales in my canoe on the Northwest Passage. This was part of a 2019 expedition to the Arctic Ocean for the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. Nova Craft Canoe
We will be closed December 25th and 26th and January 1st. Due to Covid restrictions we will be seeing customers during regular hours by appointment only outside. Please dress for the weather and call or email to set up a time.
Anyone else already planning for next season's paddling adventures? We're building into Spring 2021 and working hard on increasing our production capacity so ...we can connect more folks with boats next season. This is a timely reminder that your favourite paddlesports brands - especially small companies like ours - have been overwhelmed by the surge in demand caused by the pandemic. Be sure to place your canoe orders extra early this year via your nearest authorized Nova Craft distributor (visit the link in our bio for a full list!) in order to receive this summer. Happy trip planning! Alice Petty via Camping & Education Foundation
Hugh working on the inwale installation for this Chestnut Bob’s Special today. As with many things, a great way to learn about something is to take it apart and... put it back together. The value of a strong inwale is on full display when you remove them. The canoe wants to fold under its own weight between the sawhorses. Without the rib ends attached to something there’s little to stop them from accordion-ing together. So the question is, are the ribs holding up the inwale, or is the inwale holding the ribs?
Working full tilt in the shop this week (and most weeks this year). Thank you to our customers for your patience as we continue to work hard to get your orders out. Big shout out to our production team for putting in the hours and making it happen!
Embarking on a scenic tour! Peterborough, Napanee, Ottawa, Gatineau: see ya soon
It's not too late to sign up for the third virtual event in our Speaker Series lineup, happening on Thursday, October 22 at 1pm EST. The event will feature a p...anel discussion with Adam Shoalts, professional explorer and bestselling author of Beyond the Trees, along with OBC participant alumni Sooriya and Shelby. In 2013, Shoalts was elected a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society for extraordinary contributions to geography and in 2017 he completed a nearly 4,000 km solo journey across Canada’s Arctic. On her 14-day OBC expedition, Shelby, a young Indigenous artist, tried canoeing for the first time and has been inspired to pursue training in outdoor education. After a number of experiences with OBC, Sooriya has since launched a non-profit organization in Sri Lanka. Andrew Young, Executive Director, will share our program highlights from 2020, as we reflect on the past year and outline our vision for the future, and describe how Outward Bound Canada will support even more youth and young adults in 2021.
