Although 20/20 clarity is important, it's not enough. You see, the visual system is made up of the eyes and the brain and it’s how these two parts work together that makes all the difference. Today we fitted a 5 year old boy with contact lenses! Yes it’s young, but in his case contact lenses will help to encourage his eyes to work together because the prescription in each eye is very different. He was a champion patient and I offered to give him some extra trial lenses to take home and fit his stuffed animals with. He was stoked about this opportunity to put his new knowledge and skills to the test! His family sent me these photos of the outcome. Woof and Foxy are now happy patrons of Ottawa Valley Vision.

This is because children with vision problems have never seen their world any other way and therefore dont know they could be seeing or performing better. Urgent Optometric Care Only The College of Optometrists of Ontario and the Ontario Association of Optometrists have recently released strong recommendations that optometrists reschedule all non-urgent appointments until March 29th 2020. In order to improve access to urgent care for our patients, we will remain open and on call for ocular emergencies. This is in an effort to reduce the burden on other local health care facilities and help patients reduce wait times and avoid a...reas where there is a higher risk of infection transmission, such as a general physicians office or hospital emergency room. The following is a list of some symptoms that would be considered ocular emergencies: foreign body in the eye, ocular injury or forceful trauma to the eye or surrounding area, sudden loss or decrease in vision, sudden onset of persistent pain in or around the eye, sudden onset of pain with eye movements, sudden onset of flashing lights or floaters, or sudden onset of double vision. Our on call optometrist is also presently triaging patient calls and will accept patients for lost or broken glasses where the prescription is high as well as cases of red eye or pink eye based on a description of the symptoms.
