**** CLOSED INDEFINITELY **** We are sorry to say that the Teen Clinic will be closed UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE due to the COVID19 Pandemic. The following actions are very important during this time to slow the spread of the infection and decrease the risk of serious illness:... 1) WASH YOUR HANDS - use soap and water and set a timer for 30 seconds (this is a lot longer than most people wash their hands) 2) Dont touch your FACE - try it, its harder than you think .... 3) SOCIAL DISTANCING = Avoid social situations that are not essential, and if you are in public keep a distance of 6 feet (2 meters) from other people. 4) Self Isolation = STAY HOME if you have symptoms of fever, cough, or other cold/flu symptoms, OR ........ if you have TRAVELED outside of the country, self isolate for 14 days whether you have symptoms or not! GERMS pass quickly via droplets in the air and every time we TOUCH anything. Watch the transfer of (green) germs on this clip from scrubs ...... it happens faster than you think. Click on this link for the VIDEO: https://twitter.com/i/status/1239103553395994625 You can call or text us at (403) 586-0371 if you have any questions. VAPING Whats vaping? -Vaping is inhaling vaporized nicotine + other harmful chemicals, and is advertised as an alternative to smoking cigarettes. Vaporizers are sometimes called e-cigarettes or electronic smoking products (ESPs).... Is it healthier than smoking? Smoking is unhealthy due to both the nicotine and chemicals that enter your body via smoking them. Vaping has different chemicals than cigarettes, but many of these are harmful. Some are carcinogenic, some cause birth defects in pregnant women, and others we dont know what harms they cause. Nicotine is in e-juice, and is a a toxic substance. It raises your blood pressure and spikes your adrenaline, which increases your heart rate and the likelihood of having a heart attack. The levels of nicotine are higher in e-cigarettes which means faster addition and greater health harms. If you want some more information from a reliable source, check out the links below: https://www.albertaquits.ca//Electronic_Smoking_Products_P https://considertheconsequences.ca//EN_stakeholder-web-but As always, drop in to chat with us today from 2:30-5:30pm at the Teen Clinic. Step back and think about what happened when you started feeling this way did you receive some bad news, or have a bad experience? It is normal to experience negative feelings, but if these thoughts are preventing you from enjoying life, it may help to speak to someone, like a professional. Marijuana. Cannabis, bud, blunt, chronic, dab, dope, ganja, grass, green, hash, herb, joint, loud, mary jane, mj, pot, reefer, skunk, smoke, trees, wax, weed. The Canadian government legalized cannabis for those over 18 years of age. However, legal DOESNT mean SAFE!... Just like alcohol, marijuana can cause short term impairment of coordination and decision making, and is still ILLEGAL for those under 18 years of age. This is because it can be very HARMFUL to your BRAIN. The human BRAIN continues to develop until a person is in their mid-20s and using substances like marijuana, alcohol and other recreational drugs can cause serious cognitive DEFICITS FOR LIFE. It Just Isnt Worth It. Cannabis impacts the developing brain, causing longer term effects like PANIC, ANXIETY, PARANOIA and increasing risky or dangerous behaviours in the short term. Some changes, including COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENT, LEARNING DIFFICULTIES, SCHIZOPHRENIA and MEMORY LOSS can be permanent in some cases. Some teens have developed life-long PSYCHOSIS after using marijuana. If you have questions or concerns about the risk of marijuana, other drugs or alcohol, we can help at the Teen & Young Adult Clinic. The POWER of LANGUAGE Have you ever thought about how the words a person uses can change the impact of a statement? Check out the fake news headline below ... ... TODAY is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Violence is prevalent in society, and it may feel too big an issue to stop. Howeverm we still have the power to make changes in our own lives that can influence others and our society. Small changes, day to day, add up to big changes over time. One way that society is learning to change our relationship with violence is through the words we use each day. Both women can men can make changes in how we we speak, and specifically how we speak about violence. You can start making a change by choosing to stop using language that blames victims, objectifies women and normalizes sexual harassment. If you are interested in learning more, check out this website: https://everydayfeminism.com//02/sexually-violent-language/ If you want to learn more specifically about violence against women and how we can change rape culture, check out this Tedx video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBtXiTumdY0

What Is Addiction? Addiction is a condition that results when a person ingests a substance (for example, alcohol, nicotine or other drugs) or engages in an activity (such as social media, gambling, sex, or shopping) that can be pleasurable but the continuation of which becomes compulsive and interferes with ordinary responsibilities and concerns, such as work, relationships, or health. People who have developed an addiction may not be aware that their behavior is out of contr...ol and causing problems for themselves and others. When referring to any kind of addiction, it is important to recognize that its cause is not simply a search for pleasure and that addiction has nothing to do with ones morality or strength of character. If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction of any type, there is help available.
