These photos were taken of the inside of a phoroptor arm that had not been serviced. As you can see the grease has dried up causing stiffness in the joints of the arm and metal dust. The metal dust is caused by the bearings rubbing on the main assembly of the arm with no grease. If this is left in this condition the arm will eventually seize and when that happens a replacement arm will be required. This problem can occur to any arms mounted to your stand including the Slit L...amp arm, Phoroptor arm, and keratometer arm, and more.
