MEET THE TEAM! Gary Sidhu is a member of our Management team here at Pacific Chartered Advisors LLP. Having completed his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Kwantlen Polytechnic University in the summer of 2017, Gary is fairly new to public practice and has appreciated the opportunity to further his knowledge and skill within the accounting field over the past years with PCA.... Gary's great passion to serve others, his strong work ethic and attention to detail make him an ample part of the PCA team. During his spare time, Gary enjoys playing soccer and has played competitively since a young age. He also occasionally coaches youth teams in the lower mainland. On the weekends, you can find him hanging out with his friends, at the gym, or going on weekend trips to Las Vegas, Arizona and Toronto. - - - - - #MeetTheTeam #Langley #Vancouver #Kelowna #CPA #CEFE #Accounting #Accountant #PacificCharteredAdvisors #PCA #WestCoastStrong #NotYourUsualAccountants

In a recent ruling by federal court judges, one of the largest cryptocurrency trading platforms in Canada, Toronto-based Coinsquare, has been ordered to provide CRA with the identity and transaction data of tens of thousands of clients. Clients of Coinsquare who had deposited or held a total of at least $20,000 in an account since January 1st, 2013 were required to be identified to CRA, including whether their account is active or inactive and providing a detailed listing of ...all their transfers and trading activity. The CRA announced new Digital Services Tax regulations that will be coming in the new year. Dubbed the "Netflix Tax," the new regulations would mean international digital services would have to collect GST/HST. The regulations would apply to International based digital services such as Netflix, Spotify, Amazon Prime Video, as well as digital software and products. Canadian companies are already collecting this tax. Dwayne Winseck, a media industry researcher at Carleton University in Ottawa, also expects companies will add the price of the tax to the total sale price. "And if the idea is to create a level playing field between those two services, then that by all means that makes great sense," Winseck said.

CRA has announced that agents will be recommencing contacting taxpayers via phone. Recognizing the increase in scam callers pretending to be CRA, the CRA also recommended steps to take to ensure that the call you are receiving is legitimate. 1. Let the caller know that you would like to first verify their identity. 2. Ask for and make a note of their: name, phone number, and office location. 3. Check that the call received was legitimate by contacting the CRA at the number that applies to your situation (which can be found on the CRA website).
The Canada Revenue Agency has sent out 441,000 "educational letters" to individuals that received the Canada Emergency Response Benefit that may not have been eligible. The letters were sent to those that received the benefit but for whom the CRA was unable to verify employment and/or self-employment income of at least $5000 in 2019 or in the 12 months prior to the date of application. This income was one of the key criteria for eligibility for the CERB program. The CRA says ...that not everyone who receives a letter will be required to repay their CERB benefits. Recipients are encouraged to complete their 2020 tax returns to help the CRA correctly identify the benefits and credits to which they are entitled. The letter says that those who do owe CERB money are encouraged to repay by December 31st, 2020. A CRA spokesperson said this is for tax filing purposes, not a repayment deadline. The most recent warning letters sent out are in addition to the 213,000 letters sent out in November to CERB applicants who applied through both the CRA and Service Canada, informing them of a potential need to repay some or all of their benefits.
