Dear valued customers and bookish community, It is with extremely heavy hearts that we’ve decided to close our doors at Pages Books amidst the COVID-19 crisis. Our last day open will be today, Wednesday, March 18. We don’t know how long this is going to last but we will provide regular updates on Instagram regarding any decisions we make on reopening. ... We will be there for you on our online shop and will continue to ensure your books are dropped off on your doorsteps with no delivery fee until we reopen. You’ve all been there to celebrate with us, every day. Now let us return the favour to you. Poverty and early literacy Most of us can’t imagine a home without any bookscertainly not in Canada. And if we did, we might assume it’s because the residents ...of that home don’t care about reading. As it turns out, there are many myths about book ownership. Children who grow up in poverty are at greater risk of struggling with reading for a variety of reasons. They are more likely to grow up in homes without books, or live in neighbourhoods that have fewer libraries and bookstores. Read the blog post from Calgary Reads and learn how improving early literacy is a tool for fighting poverty here: http://vibrantcalgary.com/poverty-and-early-literacy/.
