We just received a legacy gift of $100,000 from John Page presented by John Blackburn. We are so honoured and beyond grateful that Mr. Page made the decision to leave Peace Arch Hospice Society in his will. Through this gift, his legacy will live on and his compassion and generosity will be extended to our community now and into the future.

"We remember all the babies born sleeping, those we carried but never held, those we held but could not take home, those who came home but could not stay." Each year thousands of families across Canada mourn the death of their babies. Parents get isolated in their grief and the stigma around the death of children prevents society from speaking about the devastating effects on parents and their families. Help break the silence by saying their name and acknowledging their existence to keep their memory alive. We're sending love and thinking of all the families who have lost a baby. We are here for you if you need support.

October 10th is World Hospice and Palliative Care Day - a day to raise awareness about the needs of people living with a life limiting illness and their families. In Canada, we tend to use both ‘hospice’ and ‘palliative’ to refer to the same thing. HPC is an approach to care that is designed to provide comfort and relief of suffering at the end of life. It was adopted by the Canadian HPC Association to indicate the integration of care by many health care providers throughout a variety of settings from people’s homes to the palliative care unit in hospitals. The word hospice may also refer to a place of care. #mycaremycomfort #whpcday20

Every December at our Celebrate a Life event, hundreds of people in our community come to our booth to write the name of their loved one(s) on a paper dove and hang it on our tree to honour their memory. This afternoon we participated in a fire ceremony for the paper doves from 2018 and 2019 A big thank you to Teresa Hotell, our Founder, for allowing us to do this in her beautiful garden.

Thank you to everyone who attended our first Virtual AGM last night. We would also like to thank two of our Board Members, Dave Chesney and Aroon Shah, for serving three-two year terms. Their time and talents have been so appreciated these past six years, and they will be greatly missed. We also took the time to honour our amazing Executive Director, Beth Kish, who is retiring next month.

One year ago today, we hosted our Fall Dance - Hospice Hoedown. This event is one of our favourites because of the great food, great people, and loads of fun. This year's dance was originally scheduled for September 12th, but was cancelled due to COVID-19. We truly missed having our supporters join us for such a fun evening and are looking forward to the day we can come together (in-person) once again.... Take a look back with us at last year's Fall Dance! What a night! YEEEHAW https://youtu.be/rzOsoRCMhgY
