Today, on November 11, with deep respect, we remember the sacrifice: those who lost their lives, those who were wounded in military action or hostilities, and those who served. It is always important to Remember but in 2020, it is important to honour our veterans and their sacrifices in this, the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Former railroad employees of the Grand Trunk Railway and the Canadian National Railway are obviously among those we honour today.
A Very Big Project -- The Palmerston Lions Club has removed the decking from the front of the Museum, has levelled the soil, and has supplies in place for the Spring 2021 project of laying further brickwork. Thank You Lions!
Sharing News from Guelph ....
Due to the current environment with Covid-19, and out of an abundance of caution and care for our staff, volunteers and patrons we will not be accepting appointments at this time to visit the Museum. Please continue to monitor our Facebook page and website for future updates.
ICYMI - In Case You Missed It:- Our seasonal Museum CLOSED to tourists for the season on August 30, 2020. Please check this FB page during late Spring 2021 for Museum news and updates. In the meantime, Stay Safe Everyone!
More Information No. 6167:- Hopefully the attached photo of a sign taken in Guelph beside Locomotive No. 6167 will answer most of the queries we have received since our recent post and photo of the well-known locomotive. Elaborating on the excursion through Palmerston in 1963, The Palmerston Observer reported that People by the hundreds converged on this town from miles around to see a sight so familiar just a few years ago -- a real live steam locomotive puffing into the station. (Photo credit: A P.R.H.M. volunteer - Clicking on the photo will allow those interested to view the entire sign.)More

News in Brief:- At convenient times, following the last Minto Farmers’ Market on September 26, 2020, members of The Palmerston Lions Club hope to remove the remaining wooden decking beside the Museum. This removal, if it can be accomplished in these uncertain times, will hopefully set the stage for new bricks to be put down in Spring 2021. (An October 2019 photo is attached. It shows some members of the Lions Club at work with new bricks behind the Museum.)
2020 Season In Review - Celebrating A Unique Year! The Town of Minto Devised Rules for the Safe Use of the Museum, and Purchased Supplies. We Adapted and We OPENED! With special thanks to Summer students, Sarah Hallman-Krul (full-time) and Hailey Friedel (part-time), visitors were welcomed into the Museum with safety as a key concern and COVID-19 safeguards in place. We are unable to identify individual visitors but note that numerous families, retired C.N. employee...s, railfans, supporters of our Museum, and donors dropped by. We were happy to have you on board! Year’s Focus:- When not managing the operation of the Museum and greeting visitors, the students’ focus was on cataloguing Museum artifacts and books. And Catalogue They Did! An enormous amount of detailed data entry has occurred, in addition to the tasks of labeling and photographing the items. Highlight of the 2020 Season:- Some Palmerston Artifacts Came Home! Opinions on the season’s highlight may vary but a very special day was celebrated on Saturday August 15, 2020 when a representative of the Komoka Railway Museum delivered a handset and a restored cutter, which had been used in and around the Palmerston Railway Station decades ago. (See photos and information in our FB post of August 16, 2020.) Valuable Donations:- The 2020 season saw the addition of numerous artifacts, CN100 items, magazines, and books to our collection. Thank you folks! MEET US AT THE MUSEUM IN 2021! Why Not Make Plans To Celebrate Rail History, Minto (Palmerston) Style, Next Year? We would love to share rail heritage with you.
Our Last Day for 2020 Sunday August 30, 2020 . Our seasonal Museum will be closing for the season at 5:00 p.m. today. It has been an unusual year with new Museum COVID-19 safety protocols in place but we enjoyed meeting and interacting with visitors and generous donors of interesting artifacts, magazines, and books. Thank you all for dropping by! We wish our very dedicated and positive Summer students, Sarah Hallman-Krul and Hailey Friedel well in their university studies and in their future endeavours.
Very pleased to comply with a request for a photo of popular locomotive number #6167 on an excursion run through Palmerston in 1963. This locomotive has been beautifully restored and is on display near Guelph's Central Station, Carden Street.
