... it means risking yourself by leaving a little piece of you behind in all those you meet along the way
They woke up that morning with hopes to win the game but instead they united the world. A tragedy that hits close to home for hockey families across the nation, something in our minds and on our hearts, every time we get on a hockey bus. Our hearts hurt for the parents, families, communities & billet families who didn’t get to watch that game... lives lost, teammates and families changed forever. We aren’t promised tomorrow, so make today count - hug your kids a little tigh...ter and appreciate this extra time we have with them right now. On this third anniversary, we remain forever #humboldtstrong, they are forever loved and remembered. "God, just allow us to be still. God, help there to be rest. Help there to be peace. As Jesus appeared to his disciples after he rose again, many of them wondered if it was Jesus. I’ve heard so many times: ‘I wonder if this community will ever be the same?’ You know how Jesus showed that he was who he said he was? His scars. A scar is something that is healed but still there. This isn’t going to go away. It’s not going to be as raw. Can we heal? Yes. Will the scar be there? Yes." - Chaplain Sean Brandow #changednation #humboldtstrong #foreverlovedandremembered #hockeyisfamily #oursticksareout #saskatchewan #humboldtbroncos #united #unitetheworld #scars #healing #threeyearslater #playforthenameonthefrontrememberthenamesontheback
Decision fatigue is #perfectlynormal in grief. Even something as simple as deciding what to make for dinner can feel overwhelming. Or last minute changes like -... I just mapped out my week around an appointment happening on THIS day, and another one happening on THAT day, and then one of them changed the appointment date and now I just want to go back to bed because I have no capacity to handle change. << Stuff like that. We describe this as buffer zone deficit: Managing multiple changes (large and small) erodes your mental elasticity your capacity to roll with things or go with the flow. Everything is a hassle or a roadblock. This can be true in everyday life (too many changes and decisions = decision fatigue and overwhelm). Grief itself is FULL of changes, minor and major, so you're already starting at low elasticity and capacity. If you find decisions or sudden changes in plans (big or small) to be completely overwhelming, you're completely normal. You aren't being selfish or immature if you feel like you can barely keep it together at a sudden choice or change in plans. You're already stretched impossibly thin by grief. This is an important thing for support people to be aware of. Offering your grieving person choices - even when you're offering things meant to be helpful - can backfire by overwhelming them instead. You're more likely to be successful in your support by keeping things as simple as possible. And by remembering that sometimes even a simple choice is still one decision too many for a grieving heart. Be present. Be patient. And pay attention to how your support is landing. How about you? How has decision fatigue affected you? The more we talk about this stuff, the more people realize they're not alone.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. Laurence Binyon

What a crazy Halloween we have this year: pandemic restrictions, a time change for some provinces (SK is exempt), a full moon, micro moon, blue moon... and did you know that a full moon only occurs on Halloween about once every nineteen years!? Whatever your plans are this weekend, have fun and stay SAFE!
