Scope of Work: The Advocate-Lawyer works collaboratively with the Advocate-Social Worker; oversees provincial Support Line; provides individual and systemic advocacy and legal information to kinship caregivers; provides legal education to caregivers; advocates and lawyers; actively promotes the growth of PSS programs through community development efforts. All actions are carried out in accordance with the Society’s stated mission, values and principles and in accordance with ...the professional Code of Conduct for Lawyers of the BC Law Society and the BC Code of Ethics of Social Workers. Support Line Services and Administration: Provides confidential trauma-informed warm line services accompanying families to navigate systems Manages a case load using a CRM, provides case-specific advocacy & intervention at agency or ministry levels Collaborates & engages with Advocate-Social Worker & all PSS colleagues province-wide Liaises with MCFD Senior Policy Analyst to consult on casework, alert government to systemic barriers that callers encounter & to receive up-to-date policy and standards Contributes to the evaluation of Support Line program & overall Society Monitors, edits & updates GRG Legal Guide to ensure accuracy of information Serves as an ambassador of the GRG Support Line/Society with public, media & through workshops Develops & delivers public legal education workshops relating to kinship care, family law & MCFD policy Promotes best practice pertaining to kinship care & maintains interagency networks & contacts relating to kinship care & the provincial advocacy community Develops & maintains strategic relationships with key government & community agencies Skills and Training Required: Knowledge of kinship care & related legislations (CFCSA, the FLA, Bill C-92) & MCFD/child protection policy LLB (preferred); legal advocacy training/experience (minimum) Knowledge of a trauma informed & anti-oppressive approaches to practice Understands Indigenous traditional & legal practices & perspectives related to kinship care (desired) Knowledge of community development approaches to organizing & program planning (desired) Excellent written skills and grant wiring capacity (desired) Additional languages &/or expertise working or living within diverse communities (desired) Resides in the Lower Mainland (post COVID expectation is that candidate works out of head office) Closing Date: Until filled- ongoing reviewing of applications.
