Heating is the second leading cause of home fires, deaths and injuries. December, January and February are the peak months for heating fires. Space heaters are the type of equipment most often involved in home heating equipment fires, figuring in two of every five fires (40%). Dan Doofus learns some important safety lessons about home heating. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BqR4WNd3lA

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a toxic gas that you can’t see or smell, which can be harmful when exposed. It's produced when fuels are burned incompletely, including natural gas, propane, wood, tobacco and gasoline. Good news! You can prevent CO from being a problem by installing carbon monoxide alarms to warn if it’s present.

Take a bath and be safe! When running a tub for small children make sure the tap water is not too hot. Burns are a leading cause of injury of children under age five in Canada. The typical factory setting for a hot water tank of 60 degrees Celsius will cause a serious burn in less than a second. https://burnfund.org///about-the-too-hot-for-tots-program/

Let's all celebrate the season, safely! Some tips to keep in mind while decorating for the holidays: - Before you string up a single strand of lights, carefully check them for cracked cords, frayed ends or loose connections. - If bulbs have burned out, replace them right away, but double-check that you're purchasing the correct wattage bulbs.... - Don’t hang lights using tacks, nails or screws, which can pierce the cable and become electrified. Use insulated hooks instead. - Don’t leave Christmas lights on when you go to bed at night or when you leave the house.
