Real-time Marketing Activity: Take a peek at your website, presentation or marketing material. How does your headline read? Is it ABOUT YOU? "We offer unparalleled customer service..." or "We are a one-stop-shop for X, Y, and Z." Think of your marketing content as a first date. If you only talk about YOU - the other person isn't going to be overly intrigued. When you focus your content on the reader and tell a personal story - THAT's when you create compelling sales tools.... Instead of: "Unparalleled customer service" Try: "Working together is easy - like conquering a challenge with friends." Instead of: "We're an integrated provider of XYZ..." Try: "And guess what? You'll only ever work with ONE person. It's like the project magically finishes itself." Instead of: Opening your presentation with a line about how you're so great. Try: Opening your presentation by asking the audience "What is the #1 thing that you need to make your project successful?" (because YOU are that #1 thing, anyway) So --- next time you write to your audience. Don't focus on YOU first. Focus on THEM. Tell them what they 'get' out of working with you. Not the scope of work you're capable of completing (because the next guy completes that, too). #marketing #thinkdifferent #presentation

My latest personal project - a folding business card that shares my favourite business tools and tips. Some of them are tools I've created, many are not. RANT ALERT: Today, someone asked me abruptly Why do YOU charge so much, when I can get the same thing from ‘The-Other Company’?. My immediate reaction was ‘value’ (and maybe a few other expletives). But fair enough, I thought, this person doesn’t know me, so I took the opportunity to explain MY value.... For all other value providers out there, what do you think? What else could I have said? My answer went something like this: Yes, it’s true that I charge more than The-Other Company. And, while we both bid on the same scope, what you are getting is NOT the same thing. Here‘s why: - You asked for X. And while I can deliver X, have you thought about A, B and C? Your competitors are doing X let’s see how we might differentiate and better position you through the eyes of your Ideal Client. - I’ve spent thousands of dollars in the past year continuously learning the latest in innovative brainstorming methods and marketing psychology. As a lifelong learner, I devote hundreds of hours to consuming content so YOU don’t have to. - Whether it’s a one-off job or a long-term business relationship you’re after, I commit to your ongoing success. I keep my eyes, ears and mind open for new ideas that may help you prosper long after our work is done. - What you ‘get’ is NOT just X (although, it’s a damn fine X). I become your ally. A sounding board. A partner. These are some of the ways I bring VALUE, and yes, you have to invest a little bit more for that. . OKAY GUYS I decided to write about this because I know there’s lots of you who are NOT THE CHEAPEST provider. And that’s perfectly okay. What’s important - define what makes you valuable. Design with flow. Direct your viewer's eyes to your key messages using carefully placed images. How? Pay attention to cues and composition in the photos you're using. Be choosy when selecting images, and use the 'Flip' and 'Crop' tools to make the photo elevate your design.... In these photos, the electrician's cord is directed toward the website. NOT by accident. The lady cutting vegetables is gazing straight down at the headline. Also NOT by accident. Happy designing!

Are you using these free marketing resources? From HubSpot's free CRM (which is amazing) to Coschedule's free Headline Analyzer... WINS! But please, PLEASE do yourself a favour and stay away from 'free logo makers' online. You won't get the logo files that you need, and your identity won't fully resonate with your Ideal Client. Come on Forbes... You should know better than that.
