Hi all one good samaritan drop of a dog at our kennel. He was found nearby Southgate line 10 and grey rd 14 right by the stop sign. He appears to be a golden retriever (male) straight (not fixed) he also has a surgical scar on top of his head. No microchip found. He is with us for now at Pawtopia Pet Resort & Club. Plz share this post so he can return home. BUDDY IS REUNITED WITH HIS FAMILY. THANK YOU TO ALL HOW HELPED OUT.

The art of training a dog owner. Dog owner tells me: Hi, my dog pulls on the leash and runs into the woods after deer if I let it off leash. Me: Okay. What's the breed?... Owner: A siberian husky mixed with a coon hound. Me: Okay, so you have a musher mixed with a hunting type of dog? Owner: yes. Me: ok, what are these breeds bred to do? Owner: well, half of the dog should be pulling and the other half run into the woods and hunt. Me: Yes. And your problem was? Owner: it pulls on the leash and runs after wildlife. Me: yea, it appears that you have a dog meant for pulling and hunting. Owner: yes, that's correct. Can you train it out of the dog? Me: Do you have any interests? Owner: Eh, yea sure I do. I like to paint and watch movies. Me: can you consider quitting doing that? Owner: no, I don't think I can. But what does this have to do with dog training? Me: would you consider doing something else that gives you the same pleasure you get from painting and watching movies? Owner: I mean, sure I can do other things but it's not as fun. Me: ok. And what can you offer a musher that is more fun than pulling and a hunting dog that is more fun than hunting? The dog owner is silent for a while. Owner: That's a good question. I don't know. Me: neither do I. Owner: perhaps I should had gotten myself a PlayStation? Me: haha, yea if you dont like hunting or being a lot outdoors training perhaps this dog isn't for you. Owner: yea, one should perhaps read up more before getting a dog. But it's awfully cute! Me: yes, I understand that. Owner : it sheds a lot too. My husband goes crazy of all the fur everywhere. Me: mmm, that's something you have to deal with. Owner : yes, it was even hairs in the stew last night. Me: yea that's not uncommon. Owner : but you know what? I met a husky when I was 12. It was so beautiful. Ever since I've always wanted one. Me: too bad you didn't meet a PlayStation instead. Owner laughs: alright, I think I'm starting to understand that it's not the dog that has problems but me. Me: haha, not much of a "problem". What you are saying is very common. People with guarding dogs gets angry when their dog growls at strangers. People with sighthounds gets frustrated when their dog comes home with a baby rabbit. People often know too little when they get a dog. Owner : thanks for the chat. I have learned a lot in 10 minutes. Me: good luck in the future. There's a lot we can do to help you in your training with the dog. But The dog will always have a need and joy to pull and hunt. Owner: yes, I can understand that now." Author unknown.

Finally a happy end to a very sad story! Im happy to announce that Tux had found FURever loving home and family! I'm very thankful to all (29000 people, over 200 post shares and almost 100 comments!!!!) who showing interest, time and efforts to make this handsome gentleman happy again. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart especially during such a hard time during COVID19! I was amazed at how many people were willing to participate and help out this beautiful boy who had been through the toughest time of his life being abandoned by his family at our hotel. I 'll be honest It was a very tough decision but I'm very confident that Tux will be happy with his new family!

A good 5 minute read on why you need to consider adding human food aka natural like green leafy salad and some splash of colours like an orange carrot to your dog’s menu beside the dry commercial kibbles. Pawtopia pet resort can also accommodate all types of our guest diets as per our guest’s family request and supply.

UPDATE: We currently putting a hold on rehoming Tux. Thank you to all how showed support and help in finding him a loving home and family. Due to unfortunate circumstances, this handsome boy by the name of Tux was left at our boarding hotel for over two months with his owners not picking him up and it’s been extremely hard to get in touch or communicate with. With one excuse after another with no pickup date arrangements, no visits from his family or even an inquiry call on ...how he is doing and a huge outstanding bill. It truly breaks my heart as Tux is an amazing pup! And I would hate to take him to the nearest humane society facility without priorly trying to find him home for myself. Tux had some ups and downs with the adjustment and separation anxiety of being left by his family. But with positive reassurance and basic training, he is a shining star now! He is very playful and energetic, loves a good company and trail run, very friendly around other dogs too and fairly patient with kids. Tux is just over 1-year-old handsome gentleman, he is a mix of lab and collie as per his intake information sheet and straight. He is in need of a new home and family who can find it their hearts to love him just the way he is. A family who has a big back yard and is fairly active as well. Please get in touch with me directly by messages or our hotel phone number to set up a time to meet Tux in person. See more

Training your pup or adult dog? Think of dominance vs leadership. It's not about being the alpha it's more of an authoritative parent or leadership approach. Here is an awesome read from one of the best dog trainers... Good leaders are not scary. They are approachable and friendly and provide safety and security. What’s to be afraid of there? Providing advice, guidelines, structure and when needed, kindly but firmly pointing you in right direction. Real leaders are never sca...ry or harmful. Real leaders always lead with love and respect for who you are. This kind of leadership allows the ones being led to spread their wings and find their own niche and make their own choices, always being rewarded for the right choices. Having consequences for the wrong choices as needed, but never scary. So, how do you tell a dog no or give a consequence for behavior?: Just because I train my dogs using positive reinforcement does not mean I am permissive. I do not simply ignore bad behavior, I address it. In my training, I choose to use a mix of acceptable reinforcers and acceptable punishers. However, that never includes intimidation, pain or fear! All animal behavior is shaped by consequences. That’s it! We repeat, or do not repeat, behaviors based on the resulting consequence of the behavior. Consequences can be good or bad. To be more precise, consequences can be reinforcing or punishing. Punishers are likely to decrease behavior, reinforces are likely to increase behavior. Whether something is rewarding or punishing is up to the opinion of the receiver. ALWAYS have consequences for behaviors for dogs. That’s how they learn and how to effectively teach. I simply choose not to use consequences that scare, intimidate, hurt or continually annoy dogs. Positive does not mean permissive. You can be very strict and still be gentle and force-free, because you’ve set BOUNDARIES with your dog and know how to provide swift consequences for them. And really, doesn’t that sound great? To be able to hold your dog accountable for their behaviors without scaring or hurting them or trying to control them all the time? It’s possible! It’s kinda funny that people think positive reinforcement means the lack of boundaries, because it’s actually quite the opposite: positive reinforcement training is built on boundaries!!! -->read more here Speaking Dog with Shana<--- https://www.facebook.com/315670965223143/posts/2981028662020680/?d=n

Very good article on HOW TO HELP YOUR PUP AVOID SEPARATION ANXIETY. Come very handy when you are thinking of using boarding, doggy daycares, pet sitters services or just training your young pup addition to the family to stay at home all by him/her self. http://healthypets.mercola.com//10/clingy-dog-behavior.aspx
