Payneside Farms Inc. 27.01.2021

On this day October 14th 1920 JJ MacKenzie and his wife Vern purchased Payneside Farm. Then they welcomed a baby boy on December 26th that same year and named him Ralph. They were successful farmers and had a love for their cattle and community supporting local fairs especially Stormont County Fair in which they started exhibiting in 1921. As Ralph grew up he was in the local 4-H club, attended MacDonald College and was later a 4-H Leader. After College Ralph bought and sold... local Dairy's then in the late 50's early 60"s he worked for Brampton Jerseys to run their Dairy department. In 1965 Ralph returned home and purchased Payneside Farm from his parents. JJ always considered 1965 his most successful year in the show ring....winning the Banners at the Ottawa Summer and Ottawa Winter Fairs that year. Ralph and good friend Roy Simmons were the first to introduce spreading lime on their fields. Throughout Ralph's farming career he bought and sold many animals for export in Eastern Ont. and Western Quebec. In 1972 he married Isabell, my grandmother, and this is how you could say I got hooked on farming At an early age I started showing cows with Ralph at the fairs and travelled many back roads with him buying cattle. In the late 60's early 70's Ralph sat on the committee to purchase bulls for AI. Some of the bulls he helped to select were Brightspot, Title, Jody and his favorite Beauty Doris Masters. As I grew up I spent as much time as I could at the farm escaping the city. After high school I permanently moved to Payneside and started farming full time. Then in September of 1994 we had a barn fire...the next day Ralph and I agreed that I would purchase the farm from him and continue farming. Lots of hard work and long days were ahead for me but it was all worth it as I now share my love of farming with my own family Jill, Dougie & Bobby. Our farm has gone through many changes and stages over the last 100 years...from hand/bucket milking to pipeline and now to Robotic milking. I would like to thank everyone who has helped out Payneside Farms over these past 100 years whether it be labour, custom work, calf training, local Ag business' we deeply appreciate your support! Cheers Doug Happy 100th Birthday Payneside Farms! If you ate today thank a farmer!! See more

Unless you're a Flyer fan or myopic the suspension handed to Matt Niskanen is a joke, a total farce, all objective fans know this. The easiest thing to do and ...smartest thing to do here would have been to give him at least two games in the event Montreal win tonight at least he's out for the remainder of the Montreal games. In fact, to be honest, I could have lived with that - to a degree- factoring in how I know, how we all know how the DOPS ( Department of Player Safety) works. How can you refute those who feel Gallagher deserved it? He had given Niskanen a shot before the retaliation, he was a super pest all game, he cross checked Ivan Provorov on his first shift, no penalty, and well you know, he's Brendan Gallagher, all harm that comes his way the haters love. Of course to fans who know the game and not just cheer for their team, the one game suspension is a joke. As for tonight, the war of attrition on the Habs will likely catch up to them. Erasing two leads after blowing their own last game had to be encouraging. Getting to the Carey Price heir apparent Carter Hart not once but twice ( not withstanding Vigneault sending him back after the offside goal was disallowed lol!) these are things they can take into tonight but the bottom line you can only go to the well so often. If Montreal are to win tonight you'll see it in the first ten minutes. Can they come out of their zone and into or through the neutral zone with possession and gain the offensive zone with any regularity. The Habs work down low very well, they cycle well, they play extremely well 5 vs 5. Their breakout is their biggest enemy along with of course a number of other issues to be a solid Cup contender notably a bonafide scorer but the NHL historical landscape is dotted with rookies or very young players or unsung hero types who have rallied their team. Signs of that are emerging on Montreal also with Suzuki, Kotkaniemi, the indomitable Shea Weber and of course Montreal's version of the China Wall, with apologies to Johnny Bower, Mr. Carey Price. 9:25 to game time. Enjoy the hostilities no matter what side you're on. :) #GHG Glenn MacLean, I put the Robinson-Schultz pic in for you. :)
