This makes sense as people who only do calisthenics normally have crazy physiques. As well as this, research has proven that hypertrophic effects are similar between heavier and lighter loads (once volume is equated). .... Push ups are also an excellent movement for shoulder health, when performed correctly. They reinforce ideal scapular movement and produce high EMG activity in the posterior rotator cuff, which is often lacking. The push up is also a closed chain exercise so has advantages in providing increased joint proprioception. __ This study has also shown that push-up capacity was more strongly associated with cardiovascular disease risk than the results of sub-maximal treadmill tests. __ Other studies have shown that muscular strength has an independent protective effect for all-cause mortality and hypertension in healthy males and is inversely associated with metabolic syndrome incidence and prevalence. __ Best of all is that the test is free and very simple to perform! Dear Members, In light of the World Health Organization declaring the coronavirus (COVID-19) a pandemic, our top priority is keeping our members, safe as we continue to monitor the situation. In response, Peak Performance is taking the following steps:... We are ensuring that our facility is stocked with the necessary supply of disinfectant materials and hand sanitizer to frequently clean high-touch surfaces to kill germs and ensure the gym is a safe environment for all. All staff have been instructed to stay home if they are sick and are experiencing any flu-like symptoms related to COVID-19, no matter how mild, and until they have been cleared by a medical professional to return to work. SHOULD YOUR KNEES MOVE PAST YOUR TOES WHEN SQUATTING? . . via @pheasyque .... Follow @peakperformanceandathletics . Short answer: YES. This is such an undying myth. I mean: olympic lifters train their full depth squats with their knees way past their toes, yet 135 lbs bro coach half-squatters at the gym be like: Yo, dont let them knees go past the toes if you want to keep them safe, tehe.. - Bullsh*t. Your knees are fine and are fully capable of holding the weight by traveling a little forward. Thats actually the only way youre going to keep the barbells load mid foot. - On the other hand, not letting it move past your feet will increase your lower back & hips stress by... 1070% which is A L O T. Sure, you get a 20% only knee torque, but I dont think its a good trade off with the amount of stress placed on your back. I mean, you choose.. - "..Although restricting forward movement of the knees may minimize stress on the knees, it is likely that forces are inappropriately transferred to the hips and low-back region.
