Jessica Miller Newell joins Piscine Energetics' Danii H Whealy from the the Downtown Aquarium - Denver, where she is the Assistant Curator of Fishes, Inverts and Herps. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in 13 people have asthma. More than 25 million Americans have asthma. This is 7.7 percent of adults and 8.4 percent of children. Asthma has been increasing since the early 1980s in all age, sex and racial groups. As such this talk covers a v...ery relevant series of challenges faced by a significant proportion of the population. Jessica's began her career in the aquarium field as an Ocean Journey charter volunteer for 6 years during highschool and college. She received a Bachelor of Science from Colorado State University in 2004. After graduation Jessica interned at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and afterward worked in Las Vegas for 2.5 years at the Silverton Casino. From Vegas, she went to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach and worked there for 5 years. Jessica came back to Denver full circle in 2013 to accept her current position. Jessica has a love for a myriad of animals, but sharks, sawfish, coconut crabs, and one specific Maori wrasse hold a special place in her heart. Kelli Cadenas Curator at SEA LIFE Aquarium joins Danii H Whealy to give a brilliant talk on the topic of Impostor Syndrome. She mentions how this was originally thought to only affect women but is now accepted to be experienced by men and women alike. She speaks from experience to address ways of moving past these feelings. This is certainly a talk to share around! Kelli was formerly curator at SEA LIFE Aquarium. She has worked at National Aquarium, Virginia Aquarium & Mari...ne Science Center and Interned at Shedd Aquarium over the course of her career. Her primary passion is getting people excited about animals and conservation, both aquarium guests and staff. 'Women of the Water: Inspiring the Next Generation' @Jhén Williams from ICENS in Jamaica joins Danii H Whealy of Piscine Energetics to share her research using nuclear techniques to study coastal sediments and a macroalgae bloom of Sargassum that has been negatively effecting the Caribbean economy. Her research will be applied to marine conservation plans and projects for years to come.

Hilary Jaffe, the owner and creator of Water Logged (an educational blog about all things aquatic) talks about what is like being a marine biologist in the middle of a desert. Hilary is based in Las Vegas, at the Silverton Casino where she is one of a brilliant team caring for a 117,000 gallon saltwater community.
