DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT RECYCLING IN BC? Here is your chance to submit feedback! The Ministry of Environment has surveyed the situation in BC and would like to add more items to the Recycling Regulation. They have come up with five GREAT additions, including:... 1. Mattresses 2. Residual products (e.g., propane canisters) 3. Industrial, Institutional, and Commercial recycling 4. New electronics (e.g., batteries from electric cars) 5. Marine debris (e.g., lost or abandoned fishing gear) You can find the paper outlining the proposed additions here: https://www2.gov.bc.ca//2020_recycling_regulation_policy_i And the feedback form here: https://feedback.engage.gov.bc.ca/574734?lang=en Please take the time to share your views, it is so important. Many of the reports that you hear of plastic not really getting recycled refer to ICI material, which is currently unregulated. Regulations help, as they hold the producers of the product accountable for recycling it. Equally important, regulations require honest and transparent reporting of what happens to the material once it is collected. This is also a great chance to mention problems specific to your area of residence, such as the difficulty in getting household hazardous waste off island. Thanks for reading!
