BROTHER, I CRY is the feature directorial debut of writer/director Jessie Anthony. Not only is this her first feature, but it was selected to screen at VIFF both virtually and in-theatre (tonight). We have only been working with Jessie for a short time, but have seen her talent shine on the screen, in the interviews we’ve coordinated for her and we know she’s absolutely a star to watch. Jessie just won the BC Emerging Filmmaker Award at VIFF and it’s no surprise to us. ... "Pain, insecurities, trauma, doubt" Jon (Justin Rain), a young First Nations man, is struggling to overcome addiction. But he has several strong women in his corner: his girlfriend, his sister, his mother, and his unborn daughter, they are all hoping he can master his demons and find peace. Made under Telefilm’s Talent to Watch program, the debut feature from Capilano graduate Jessie Anthony is a social realist drama edged with dark dreams and visions. - @viff The film features brilliant performances by Justin Rain, Lauren Hill, Violet Cameron, Jay Cardinal Villeneuve & more. THE CURSE OF WILLOW SONG written & directed by Karen Lam is streaming now as a part of The Vancouver International Film Festival. We are so thrilled to be working alongside Karen and the team to coordinate interviews & promotion for this dark and beautiful film. Listening to Karen speak about her film in interviews has been an inspiring experience in itself. The film was just awarded the Best BC Film today and we are not surprised, here’s what the jury had to sa...y... The Curse of Willow Song stood out for its memorable protagonist, its specificity in world building and, above all, its spirit of risk in storytelling. Lead actor Valerie Tian portrays the role of Willow with subtlety and strength and director Karen Lam effectively creates a noir-inspired mood that is simultaneously familiar and foreboding. Both funny and darkly serious, The Curse of Willow Song manages to captivate the viewer through stylized storytelling while tackling systemic racism and socioeconomic divides in Vancouver. Catch #thecurseofwillowsong online @viff throughout the festival or in person on Oct. 3rd. The film will also be screening at the @reelworld this October. Congrats to the entire team including Valerie Tian, Elfina Luk, Ingrid Nilson, Adam Lolacher, Johannah Newmarch, Simon Chin, Nelson Leis, Amanda Burke, David Lewis, Karen Wong & more. See more
