Today is the day we announce the winner of our Meet the Spirits Driving Scavenger Hunt event which we ran for the past four weekends. After randomly drawing a team name, congratulations go out to the team named Barely There! In total 88 teams and 250 people participated in this free event. The staff and volunteers of the museum are so pleased we were able to provide this bit of entertainment to so many enthusiastic people. All the pictures and videos you submitted were truly amazing. Many of you have requested we do something similar in the future. We have listened and are planning a new hunt for the new year. #penetanguishene #scavengerhunt #meetthespirits #penetang

So today begins our 4th and final weekend for our Meet the Spirits Driving Scavenger Hunt. Remember it is as simple as downloading the app ActionBound on either your phone or tablet, and off you go! Hint: If it is really bright outside or maybe a bit drizzly, simply scan the qr code at the site and watch the video and do the quizzes back in your car. Also remember to access the available map. Thank you to over the 200 people that have already done it! Your feedback has been amazing, and we are so happy we were able to provide the community with this opportunity for a few hours of entertainment. If you are still needing a little motivation to get up and get going, here is a picture of the randomly drawn prize you will become eligible to win by completing your bound!

Wednesday October 28, 1891 marked the anniversary of the passing of Penetanguishene's second postmaster, William Basil Hamilton. He was born in Scotland in the year 1812. Prior to becoming postmaster, he had lived his life as a fur trader. In 1858 he relocated to Collingwood to assume the role of Collingwood's first mayor. He died at the age of 79 from "old age, heart failure and a couple of hernias". He is buried in Collingwood. Photo of Post Office courtesy of Rene Hackstetter collection.

On October 18, 1869 Simcoe County passed By-Law No. 111, "Respecting the preservation of public morals in the County of Simcoe" - no shopping, work, liquor-selling, sports, hunting, fishing, dancing or profane music on Sunday and no swearing at any time". Given the chaotic and stressful times we are currently living in worldwide, would you support the withdrawal of any of these activities on Sundays? Or are Sundays now just another day of the week?

Are you a French Canadian person with a traditional family Christmas recipe, that you would be proud to share with the community? If so, then the museum would love to speak with you! We are planning a video series that will appear on our facebook page during the weeks of late November and early December highlighting the stories behind the recipe and a view of the finished product. If interested, please call 705-549-2150, email [email protected] or comment below.

What a fun contest from our friends at the Huronia Museum and Huron Ouendat Village. It's never too late to get inspired by the Group of Seven and try and draw your own creation.
