Dear Friends, Read Penguin Eggs For Free: With the effects of Covid-19 closing stores that carry Penguin Eggs, we have decided to ease the burden of self-isolation for many folk and roots music fans by posting the magazine online for free. Please share our links with anyone who you think would enjoy the content. If you feel like leaving a donation, we would be extremely grateful, but please don’t feel obligated. While the whole magazine is available online, we’ve broken it into parts so it’s easier to download. Enjoy. https://www.penguineggs.ab.ca/current-issue/showcase-article Stay safe and well - Roddy Campbell

Due to Covid19 our printer is short-staffed, as is our binder, as a result, the spring issue of Penguin Eggs won't be out until March 25. But it has cracking content and, hopefully, well worth the wait. Lankum, who approach traditional Irish music with a modern intensitya relentless spirit of non-compromise, are on the cover. We also have an in-depth interview with the wonderful Australian songwriter Paul Kelly, as well as BAABA MAAL, William Prince, Sultans of String, Che A...palache, É-T-É, Michael Doucet, Joe and Linda Byrne, Mike Tod, Afro-Metis Nation, Ken Whiteley, Skye Concert, Maìri Rankin and Eric Wright, and Dayna Manning. Plus, The Record That Changed My Life: Drew Gonzales salutes Leonard Cohen’s You Want It Darker and Tony Montague celebrates Black culture and its indelible contributions to various forms of folk and roots music. All this and lots of record reviews. See more

Shameless plug. We are now offering a one-year subscription to Penguin Eggs for $15.99 Cdn. You can do so at www.penguineggs.ab.ca But please read on. Penguin Eggs has reached a crossroads of sorts. Canadian stores have now seriously cut back on the number of magazines they stock. As a result, specialty publications, such as ours, has a diminished presence on the nation’s shelves. Obviously, if it’s not readily available, it can’t be bought. Needless to say, less revenue has ...considerable consequences on our sustainability. Now entering our 21st year, we are hoping to increase our subscriptions to ensure the future of the only magazine in North America solely dedicated to folk, roots and world music continues to thrive. Hopefully, our reduced annual rate will inspire such activity. You can do it easily by sending an e-transfer to [email protected], or find a safe and reliable method through PayPal on our website Or pay by credit card by phoning 780.433.8287. Much thanks for reading this post. See more
