We are beginning our search for a full time Physiotherapist. This position involves working opening and closing shifts. Our clinical team consists of 3.25 physiotherapists, 2 massage therapists and 1 chiropractor.... Our renovated clinic has private treatment rooms. We work 1:1, and have 60-minute assessment, and 30/45-minute treatment times. Our treatment approach is balanced with dedication to patient education and an appreciation of evidence. We have an established marketing platform and cloud-based charting system to allow clinicians to have a modern approach to caseload management. Our clinical caseload is a mix of private, WSIB and MVA patients. Our clinic is supported by a great administrative team who assists with managing WSIB and MVA cases, and our management team has a continual focus on process improvement. We have created innovative programs including The Physiohaus RunLAB, Functional Movement Classes, and are well known in London for our TMD treatment. In 1979 pain was described as an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage and was criticized for being heavily focused on tissue injury and individuals' ability to describe their pain. How Can We Define Pain in 2020? Pain is "an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with, or resembling that associated with, actual or potential tissue damage." ... This updated definition is supported by a few key points that are important to recognize in clinical practice. 1. Pain is always a personal experience that is influenced to varying degrees by biological, psychological, and social factors. 2. Pain isnt just about what happens inside sensory neurons. 3. Through their life experiences, individuals learn the concept of pain. 4. A person's report of an experience as pain should be respected. 5. Although pain usually serves an adaptive role, it may have adverse effects on function and social and psychological well-being. Saturday morning coffee and an exciting piece of research about optimizing training load in runners is always welcome. Part of our Runlab at Physiohaus involves assessing your load on your body during training. Load management is part of every sport and new running research looks at different types of load.... Instead of just mileage, we can evaluate minutes run per session x your perceived score of difficulty. As we all know, every 30 minute run doesnt feel the same to our body. Sleep, work, and family stresses can make one run that is typically a 5/10 for you feel like an 8/10. Heart rate snap shots during a persons day and during the run can also give an idea of how hard a system is working throughout the day. Stressors and biophysiological markers that clinicians can measure may be part of why a 5 k training program isnt going as planned. There may be more to the hamstring injury than just adding too much mileage too fast. Taking physical load (external load) and psychological and physiological (internal load) factors into consideration versus just the typical mileage per week is important when keeping our runners healthy, optimizing performance or returning from injury. While the research community studies metrics and validates them, clinicians can apply advanced knowledge about internal load assessment with their runners. Can you reuse a disposable mask? How many times? While cloth masks are designed to be washed and reused, most medical-style disposable masks are officially designed for a single use especially in higher-risk environments. Between uses, consider leaving a disposable mask in a paper bag for at least three days if you plan to re-use.... If you are using cloth masks, think about purchasing 5-7 masks. In some cases, these masks may need to be changed mid-day...especially if soiled. For children returning to school, consider 2 masks a day. Can you clean a disposable mask between uses? Yes. Medical-style disposable masks can be steamed or exposed to sunlight to kill the virus faster. Experts don't recommend using cleaners or especially disinfectants on such masks, as you could end up breathing them in the next time you use it. Of course, for cloth masks, washing in the laundry (in hot water) is the most effective, and easiest thing to do. As masks become a bigger part of daily life, you'll probably need more of them like socks and underwear. Reusable cloth masks are generally recommended for day-to-day use. We are usually a scheduled family. Our change in schedule over the last 4 months has brought a welcomed amount of bonus time with family...but our typical workout schedule @centrebranchymca is on pause. Seeing parents out at parks with their kids is a great reminder of how we can be creative to sneak a workout in. Here are 5 ideas to add to your creative collection of workouts.... 1. Take some climbing rope or a Trx outside and work off of a low tree branch. You can do multi-angle rows and presses with this idea. 2. Bring your yoga mat to a schoolyard and work on a push-up and core series while kids run and free play. 3. No mat? Try walking lunges around the play equipment! 4. If your child needs more direct supervision, try some static holds in a squat position while they play on slides. 5. Monkey bars - great for adults too! Turn these into pull ups...or hook your feet in and turn them into body weight pull ups (similar to bent over row). While you might not have access to a 45 min continuous workout, you can mix in small cycles of focused activity while outside (or while doing PPE inventory at Physiohaus)! #exercise #movement #healthy #makeitfun #intervals #functionaltraining
