To help alleviate pain and suffering due to the Taal calamity, Elder Cook presented Rolando Bautista, Secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development who joined the meeting, with a donation of Php 1 million pesos ($20,000 USD) on behalf of the Church. FOR HALIFAX WARD MEMBERS ONLY: Good morning members! After some prayerful consideration, we have decided that we will continue with Sacrament meeting this morning at the Halifax chapel. The bishopric is at the church and road conditions seem well enough.... However, given the forecast, we are cancelling the 2nd hour of meetings to allow people to get home safely before conditions worsen. Please prayerfully consider for yourselves if the conditions are safe enough for travel to church. As always, you are in our prayers. Sincerely, Halifax Ward Bishopric

Filipinos across Canada celebrated Filipino Heritage month for the first time in June. In a landmark unanimous vote October 30, 2018, the House of Commons adopt...ed Motion 155, declaring "June as Filipino Heritage Month" from coast to coast. Bro. Al Landingin, Elders Quorum President in the Halifax Ward, was asked to co-emcee a Cultural event on June 23 at the Halifax Forum, put on by the Filipino Association of Nova Scotia. Al, his wife, and two sons, live in Halifax. More and more Filipinos who emigrate, who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, are choosing to come to Atlantic Canada. They are proud of their heritage and happy to be members of the Church. They like to share both their culture and their faith. Thank you brother Landingin, and thank you to all Filipinos who are serving in their congregations, and in their communities, throughout Atlantic Canada.
