Santa Monica's newly released Wellbeing Index looks at six key dimensions: outlook, community (how involved Santa Monica residents feel with their city and loca...l government and networks), place and planet, learning, health and economic opportunity. Overall, we're in good health, feel engaged in our neighborhoods and are happy most of the time, said Mayor Ted Winterer. But there are clear areas of disparity, and the overall strength of a community is measured by its ability to help all members thrive, including its most vulnerable members." A place to start: engaging the 71% of city residents who feel as though they have no say in local policy decisions. How (and why) Santa Monica and communities around the world could benefit from supporting a culture of leadership emerging from all levels, inside and outside of government: www.pps.org//toward-place-governance-civic-infrastructure/
Well, the inaugural community volunteer appreciation dinner is now in the books. If you'd like to see it become an annual event, please be sure to thank and support the businesses who were instrumental in making it happen - The Hive, Village West Urban Market, and Askew's Foods. It was great to have Mel Arnold, MP and Mayor Cooper serve up cake to our guests and thanks to Council for serving the spaghetti! Thanks too to the Shuswap Community Foundation for the Canada 150 fund...ing, the Shuswap Family Resource Centre for the sponsorship of the application and the Scouts Canada - 1st Salmon Arm for table set up. But mostly, thanks for all you do building community through volunteerism.

It’s here! The CIW National report "How Are Canadians Really Doing?" was released today, covering topics from eight interconnected domains of #CdnWellbeing. One... fact is concrete: the gap between economic growth and wellbeing in Canada is growing. What interests you about Canadian wellbeing? Is it our communities, our living standards, our education? How can we find a better balance in all areas of wellbeing for all Canadians? Read it, share it, change it. http://ow.ly/38Xa306nz6A See more
