It’s a great day for a walk too; and Police Point Parks has been known to have deer, cottontail rabbits, ring neck pheasants, several species of birds in the area. Have you seen any wildlife in the park? If so hashtag us in your IG post. Don’t forget to pop into the Centre to see the new exhibit on Southern Alberta owls. Coyote Activity Noticed in Police Point Park October 29, 2020 Be informed. Stay calm. Remain mindful. Recent coyote activity has been reported down in Police Point Park. In particular, 3 coyotes have approached onto dog-walking visitors on the paths. There has also been notice of fresh deer kills that are a vital portion of the coyotes diet. We, the visitors, must be aware of their natural presence in the park. To ensure the safety of both us nature-lovers and the natur...al habitants, we must remain calm and try to spook the coyotes our of way with a few different methods: If you encounter a coyote, make the experience unpleasant for the animal Respond to their presence aggressively by making yourself appear larger. Throw rocks, sticks or other objects toward the animal Shout in a deep voice and maintain eye contact If the coyote continues to approach, back away slowly and move toward buildings or human activity if the coyote continues to approach. Do not turn away or run. This will encourage the coyote to chase you. ALWAYS ALWAYS Remember: They tend to be more territorial and aggressive toward dogs at this time of year. Coyotes may try to entice your dog away and attack it to eliminate the threat. Keeping your dog leashed at all times is the best way to keep it safe! Report your encounter: Nature Centre at (403) 529-6225, or Parks Department at (403) 529-8333 or Fish & Wildlife at (403) 529-3680 Additional Information can be found here: Coyote (Canis latrans) Urban Coyotes https://www.alberta.ca/coyotes.aspx
