Update on the Highway situation. The Hwy between McNeill and Woss is now open, although some areas are one lane due to downed trees. Drive slow to avoid hitting debris and prepare to yield to opposing traffic. Watch out for emergency workers clearing the trees and power lines. If you know of anyone put exploring the back country today please ensure they made it home as downed trees may have stranded them in the Bush.

Please avoid Hwy 19 near Port McNeill. Multiple lines down and trees are still falling. Very dangerous situation. Essential travel between hyde creek and Port McNeill is possible at your own risk! Full closure South of Hyde Creek at this time. Travel is possible to Port Hardy via Rupert Main.

Hi everyone! We are happy to report that Online Crime Reporting is now available for the Port McNeill RCMP. This is a faster way to report less serious crimes. What can you now report online?... - Lost or stolen items under $5,000 - Property damage or vandalism that will cost under $5,000 to repair - Driving complaints that are not in progress - Crimes that occurred anywhere within the Port McNeill RCMP jurisdiction including Sointula, Woss, Zeballos, and Kyuquot What cannot be reported online? - Lost or stolen personal identity or firearms - Lost or stolen license plates or decals - Crimes that involve a witness or a suspect Benefits of the new system include: - An immediate police file number (for insurance purposes or your personal records) - Increased efficiency - Improved crime statistics for the RCMP Our goal is to provide you with an easy-to-use system that encourages you to report minor incidents that you otherwise might not phone in. Most importantly, the reporting tool is mobile friendly. We have added our new Detachment website address, which includes the new online reporting tool, to the front of our Facebook page. Although we hope you will not need to use it, we believe this new tool can make it a little easier to deal with a negative experience. Please share! www.portmcneill.bc.rcmp-grc.gc.ca

Hi everyone, The sense of community in the North Island is one of the highlights of working at the Port McNeill Detachment. You look out for your neighbours, check on stranded motorists, and call Police when needed. We attempt to respond to all calls in a timely manner with our primary constraint being the logistics of our enormous Detachment area. We provide Police coverage to Port McNeill, Sointula, Woss, Zeballos, Kyuquot, and all points in between. ... We are saying all of this to make one request: Don’t be afraid to call 9-1-1! Call 9-1-1 when immediate action is required, such as when someone’s health, safety, or property is in jeopardy or a crime is in progress. Some examples of In Progress situations include coming upon a motor vehicle collision, observing/following an erratic/unsafe driver (pull over first!), or witnessing a person acting suspiciously. We can understand the reluctance to call 9-1-1 when you think something is not serious enough. However, if it is happening now (i.e. in progress), call 9-1-1 right away instead of our non-emergency line. This allows a dispatcher to obtain the details and advise Police directly by radio, which prevents unnecessary delays. We hope this makes sense! Tomorrow, we will have some news about our new online reporting system we are rolling out. Thanks for reading and sharing!
