Jr NBA Week 5 Challenge The Handshake NOTE: This Challenge is only to be done with the people you are staying home with to respect physical distancing This week we challenge our athletes to get creative at home. We have seen some amazing handshakes through the years in the NBA and WNBA and now is your opportunity to create one with someone at home practicing physical distancing. Have players post their handshakes online using the hashtag #JrNBAatHome or have them share it... within personal groups. This memory came up today from 2 years ago...U14 Hornets win SILVER at Ontario Cup OBA's in London, what a fantastic weekend
Dribble Drill Athletes can work to keep their handles tight, even while at home! Start the drill with one basketball. Athletes will get into an athletic stance, and dribble the basketball, 10 dribbles up high, 10 dribbles at the midway point, and 10 dribbles low. To challenge athletes, have them use two basketballs, they can alternate their dribbles, and improve their ability to dribble with both hands! Click the button below to view Jaren Jackson Jr of the Memphis Grizzlies perform this drill. https://basketball.us3.list-manage.com/track/click
Body Weight Circuit Sometimes a simple bodyweight workout is the most ideal. Push-ups, jump squats, crunches, planks, and some happy feet...put it all together, and you have yourself a workout! This series of exercises targets a few of the major muscle groups in the body and will prepare athletes to get back on the court. Click the button below to follow along with Renee Montgomery of the Atlanta Dream as she takes athletes through the circuit. https://basketball.us3.list-manage.com/track/click
Jr. NBA at Home Exercises "Jr. NBA at Home," is a new interactive content series for young athletes who are currently unable to hoop with their friends and teammates, promoting physical activity and character development. The content features players and coaches in the NBA & WNBA, demonstrating at-home basketball skills and drills to be completed in limited space, with little to no equipment. #JrNBAatHome will feature daily posts on the @jrnba social media handle via Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and NBA digital properties. Athletes can subscribe to Jr.NBA on YouTube to access the full archive of videos. Below you will find some of the videos posted to date. Dear OBA Club Executives, Hope this email finds you, yours and your members safe and well.... Ontario Basketball, in accordance to Canadian and global health authorities, has made the difficult decision to cancel all programs including the remaining OBA Championships on the 2020 calendar through May for U13 athletes and older. OBA appreciates the support of our basketball community in your cooperation and understanding. This decision is not being made solely for the health of our players, coaches, and officials, but also public health. With rapidly developing risks associated with COVID-19 it is not safe for our basketball community to play - or train towards playing - in these end-of-season tournaments with thresholds of public gatherings set at 50 people and the encouragement of social distancing. We encourage all Ontarians to follow public health advice as we are in the midst of a global health crisis that is far more significant than sport. Cancelled events include: Provincial Championships and Ontario Cup OBL Weekends OBL All-Star Game (May 2) Sanctioned Tournaments All confirmed accommodations for OBA Championships booked through Sport-Travel will be canceled by Sport-Travel. Please inform teams and parents and do not contact the hotel or Sport-Travel. Sport-Travel will contact team managers if there are any concerns or issues. Additionally, at this time, the Ontario Summer Games (July 30 to August 2, 2020 in London) and Canada Basketball National Championships (August 3-8, 2020 in Kingston) have not been cancelled. In consultation and collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries and Canada Basketball, OBA will continue to monitor the latest updates from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Canada’s chief public health officer, and the Government of Canada and provide updates on programming on a timely basis. Ontario Basketball would like to thank our basketball community for their patience and cooperation during these unprecedented times as we came to this decision as part of our collective responsibility to protect our communities and work to contain the spread of the virus. Please see our updated FAQ for further information. Thank you for your cooperation, support and understanding at this time. If you have any questions, please let me know. Be safe. Yours in basketball, Jason Jansson Executive Director Ontario Basketball P: (416) 477-8075 x 202
