End your day on a high note by catching the sunset on one of Cape Breton’s beautiful west coast beaches Lawrence’s Beach, Port Hood We are so lucky to have... 5 amazing beaches here in my hometown. Lawrence’s Beach will continue into the Boardwalk Beach, with a small boardwalk that leads you to the ocean for a great evening walk. Wharf Beach (Sunset Beach) has some of the warmest ocean water in the summertime for swimming Lifeguard Beach, perfect for a family beach day and the Beach Canteen with the best burgers at the entrance for lunch Murphy’s Bond Beach, the best place to catch the boats coming in and out the wharf during fishing season I hope your summer adventures bring you to one or all five of these beautiful beaches once it is safe to do so (for now, please stay home and follow Covid-19 guidelines so we can have the best summer). Happy Monday!

One of our satellite tags from a bluefin tuna caught off Port Hood, Nova Scotia aboard F/V Bay Queen IV was picked up on Rutherford Beach, Louisiana. These fish... make annual round-trip migrations to their warm-water spawning grounds...in this case the Gulf of Mexico...and return to productive foraging grounds late in the summer to fatten up and do it all over again! Thank you Bobby and Nelwyn Miller for returning this valuable data! https://www.kplctv.com//tag-bluefin-tuna-showed-travels-c/

We are very excited to announce that Misty MacDonald has taken on the position as Executive Director at the Chamber! Misty has worked in a variety of businesse...s in the area for the past 25 years, and as a small business owner herself, she appreciates the valuable role the Strait Area Chamber plays in providing networking and educational opportunities, business advocacy, support and promotion for its members. To say that 2020 has been a year of challenges is an understatement! While some of our local businesses have survived and thrived during the pandemic, there are many others that will need extra support. Part of her focus in the coming months will be to gather input from our membership as to how we can help and where we need to focus our efforts in the coming years. She looks forward to meeting with Strait Area Chamber members and greater business community in the coming months, whether in person or socially distanced. If you have any questions or would like to chat, please reach out to the Chamber office by phone (902) 625-1588 or you can reach her directly by email to [email protected].

Hi all! Happy Wednesday! It’s Wendy MacIsaac here and I am going to add a fun video of Mac Morin and myself dancing in the Creignish Hall! We loved the way the ...shadows were coming in through the big windows overlooking the Northumberland Strait! It was also very nice to be dancing in that hall again where I learned my first steps from my mom, Geraldine MacIsaac, who taught step dancing there with Natalie MacMaster’s mom, Minnie! Mac’s mom, Mary, was also a great dancer. Good memories! #CapeBretonCeltic #celticcolours See more

Opening Day is here! In a few minutes Maria VanZutphen, RMT begins an exciting new venture. In just 4 weeks we transformed this space into a beautiful massage ...clinic for Maria to start her new career. The pride I feel today as I watch her do something she loves is immense. She has given it her all with school (finishing the top of her class), while holding down a part time job and raising her sweet Laina. I’m so impressed with this young woman and wish her all the best today and everyday . Welcome to Port Hood’s business community! Lotsa love, Mom. See more
