Miklat Recovery Society would like to share the wonderful news that we are working in tandem with Together We Can-Addiction Recovery & Education Society to expand our programs for Clients, their Families, Community and our Team. This support will ensure longevity, resources, strong leadership and growth in a positive manner for Miklat which will in turn allow us to reach out to Men and Women from all walks of life and continue to provide affordable treatment to those with a desire to live free from addiction. We would also like to shout out to Hope For Freedom Society for all their support and their selfless work they continue to do for us, society and the homeless with whom they provide amazing open arms. We are all in this together and we too believe that TOGETHER WE CAN!

The oven at our 10 bed non-profit men's recovery home in Powell River (Miklat) broke down tonight, just in time for Christmas! And I thought 2020 couldn't get ...any worse! We have some utility grade turkeys coming for Christmas dinner and no oven to cook them in. It's pretty darn hard to cook for 10 guys without an oven! If anyone has a used one sitting around or if you're remodeling and getting rid of your old one, we could sure use it. We can come pick it up too, some of these guys still have good backs. Photo is an artistic recreation of what happened to the oven tonight. See more

We did some hiking along the Sunshine Coast Trail today. Took the boys to Lund and then hit the trails to Manzanita Hut. Amazing view of Lund and Savary Island from there. Hiking is healing. This is what recovery looks like! #Miklat #ThisIsWhatRecoveryLooksLike #recoveryjourney #endstigma #addictionrecovery

A few of our clients had the honour of being able to decorate the Overdose Awareness Tree at Town Centre Mall in Powell River on Saturday. This tree is a memorial to many of the fallen warriors who have lost their battle with substance use in BC and across Canada. Small glass orbs with the names and faces of these lost souls cover the tree. We also got a chance to speak briefly with our amazing local news reporter Paul Galinski of the Peak about what this tree means to us. Special thanks to Darlana Treloar and Lyn Nicol of Moms Stop The Harm for inviting us to partake in this memorial event. #recoveryispossible #endstigma #addictionrecovery #recovery #thisisrecovery #overdoseawareness

Hi All; My name is Sean S., one of Miklat’s Board Members. I wanted to be a marine biologist as a child, I found addiction as a teenager and carried on until I was 29. Today, one day at a time, I choose recovery!! Sean S. Choices... We did not choose to become addicts. Basic Text p. 3 When we were growing up, all of us had dreams. Every child has heard a relative or neighbor ask, What do you want to be when you grow up? Even if some of us didn’t have elaborate dreams of success, most of us dreamed of work, families, and a future of dignity and respect. But no one asked, Do you want to be a drug addict when you grow up? We didn’t choose to become addicts, and we cannot choose to stop being addicts. We have the disease of addiction. We are not responsible for having it, but we are responsible for our recovery. Having learned that we are sick people and that there is a way of recovery, we can move away from blaming circumstances or ourselves and into living the solution. We didn’t choose addiction, but we can choose recovery. Just for today: I choose recovery.

Kindness, along with the smallest contributions of many, has made Miklat House real. Let’s change the world together simply because we can! Thank you, PRMRHS October 13 Making a difference ... Words cannot describe the sense of spiritual awareness that we receive when we have given something, no matter how small, to another person. Basic Text, p. 104 = Sometimes it seems as though there is so much wrong with the world that we might as well forget trying to make a difference. After all, we think, what in the world can I do? I’m just one person. Whether our concerns are so broad that we desire global peace or so personal that we simply want recovery made available to every addict who wants it, the task seems overwhelming. So much work to do, so little time, we sigh, sometimes wondering how we’ll ever do any good. Amazingly enough, the smallest contributions can make the biggest difference. To gain more from life than an ordinary, plodding existence requires very little effort on our parts. We ourselves are transformed by the deep satisfaction we experience when we lift the spirits of just one person. When we smile at someone who is frowning, when we let someone in front of us on the freeway, when we call a newcomer just to say we care, we enter the realm of the extraordinary. Want to change the world? Start with the addict sitting next to you tonight, and then imagine your act of kindness multiplied. One person at a time, each one of us makes a difference. = Just for today: An act of kindness costs me nothing, but is priceless to the recipient. I will be kind to someone today See more

Miklat Recovery Society of Powell River is seeking your input in order to improve our ability to serve the community of British Columbia as well as across Canada. We have designed two surveys, one directed towards people with lived or living experience related to substance use disorder, who have completed a residential addiction treatment program. The other survey is aimed at the families of people affected by substance use disorder, who have had a loved one complete a resi...dential treatment program. This survey will only take 5 minutes, and the results will provide us with valuable information in order to make informed decisions moving forward, so that potential clients will be able to locate us and find the information necessary to make that crucial decision to enter treatment. As a benefit of completing the survey, you will be entered into a draw if you so desire. The winners of the draws will receive either one $50 CND gift card for Amazon, or one of two $25 CND dollar gift cards for Starbucks. Each survey has separate gift cards to win. The winners will be drawn randomly and will remain anonymous. Survey for client group: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/L3737VG Survey for loved ones/family: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/7JY75FN
