Powerbox fitness is honored to announce Ivan Babic , a wonderful trainer and his client Bill . Together they share a success story on their progress against Partkinson’s. Ivan Babic:... Bill and I coordinated our first meeting and did a consultation. We seemed to be a match for training. through the bit of research, I found some hope in testimonials with regards to exercise slowing down the symptoms of Parkinson's. Once we did our first session, I came to experience first hand the limiting affects of Parkinson's on Bill. He really had problems engaging and connecting with muscle groups. There were postural as well as balance issues. After our first workout, we both realized we enjoyed working with one another but we had an uphill battle to fight. We were both determined! We would start out our sessions with quite a bit of static stretches as well as rolling to help with some myofascial release. Then we would get into the exercises. We worked on building core strength which was quite weak, I had to hold his hand for balance doing an exercise such as a step up. He was also weak in his pulling, pushing and other leg exercises. By the time we had completed a month of training we were seeing some improvement. Albeit small but to us still significant. We continued on. Bill continued to improve and so we progressed to more complex exercises, more load, and longer workouts. Also, people started to notice a difference in Bill's functioning outside the gym. Our goals also evolved over time. Initially we were conservative and just wanted to combat the rigidity with Parkinson's and to try and hold on to as much functioning as possible. We were amazed at his progress as I kept testing his limits and abilities. He went from having difficulties doing basic pulling exercises to doing his first chin up in over 40 years. Initially, he could barely do a proper squat; there was no explosiveness to it ie he could not jump at all. As we continued working, he developed the ability to do many jumping exercises. He had stopped running 7 years earlier due to the condition even though he used to be a marathoner and qualified and ran the Boston marathon. Needless to @ Powerbox Fitness, Trainers Gym
