A summary of the last little while: https://projectparadise.ca/2021/04/10/milestone-x/
New tool added to the collection! Found this beauty at a pawn shop in Nanaimo. Compared to other used chop saws, it’s barely got a scratch.
This weekend was planned! But of course the plan didn’t happen. We did get a couple containers off the ground. They’re not in place yet but we’re getting close. Our plan crashed a bit when some bones tried to leave someone’s leg... more to come on that.
Thinking about roof top terraces. https://cloud.chiefarchitect.com///decking-over-a-roof.pdf
One container is located on coordinate but we need to jack it and embed some steel plates into the concrete blocks and weld it in. We were able to use our backhoe to do the install. The next container is on our property but we’ll need a bigger piece of equipment to lift it.
First trip is always the hardest. Punctured tire on trailer.
This is Angie. She lives in our greenhouse.
Got a couple concrete pedestals poured. Took way longer to do the forms and rebar than it did to mix up 25 cubic feet of concrete.
Did a quick trip to the Island the other week. Maiden voyage for the M1083. Christened Mistress 6 Of 9.
Welcome to 2020! In early 2019 we finished moving the concrete blocks and then right before the next milestone (moving containers!!!) I (Jeff) was offered and took a job in Montana. I’ve still got mixed feelings about this. It is a great opportunity, great job with great people and I could continue to build a great career off of it. At the same time, It’s not on the island, I rarely get back to Canada - never mind our property - and I’ve got little time to do much more than work and go to the dog park. Anyone with input on a system like this: https://www.wholesalesolar.com//magnum-dual-ms4448-w-2-cla
It’s been awhile since we posted. Things have not gone as we anticipated. We were planning on being broke and living in the bush. Sadly, one of us took a job in Montana and the other is taking some time to complete some training (occasionally) in New York. So, not as planned but things are going well and proceeding on different fronts. ... We did a quick trip back to the property to check on things. Deer had a great time with the fruit trees but they’re all growing. The kiwi is doing amazing. The Peach tree was abandoned and suffered terribly. It won’t make it. Taking a step back has offered some perspective on how to best continue and has given us time to get quotes for all sorts of equipment and building supplies. It’s also allowed a bit of time to fix the house in AB. It’ll be for sale soon, if anyone is looking! Nick continues to grow and gets better behaved all the time. Cats are continuing to shed and the old one is starting to yell at us when he doesn’t get his nightly spoonful of fish. Thanks to everyone for being patient. Really cool stuff is on the way! We promise!
A nice write-up on Solar Thermal Heat. https://www.latitude51solar.ca//home-heating-with-evacuate
Tomorrow will be the start of a new project. Hooking up a 15t Hydraulic Winch.
Chainsaw week. We had a pile of logs in one of our future gardens. Garden area reclaimed. Firewood stacked.
