A 16-year old student employee of Prairie North Co-op has got the community talking in St. Brieux. The store manager recently shared the following, "I would like to share with you some art work one of our students has created for us at St.Brieux. [When I heard that she had some talent] I asked her to paint our windows for Christmas and this is what she came up with. We are getting a lot of comments from our customers..... they love the display. It took her about 20 hours to paint." Did you know that Co-op week is uniquely Canadian . . . our US neighbours recognize October as Co-op Month, and the United Nations has an International Day of Co-operatives on the first Saturday in July but there is only one Co-op Week and we think that it is kinda a big deal! Started in 1958, it is an opportunity for us to tell our story as a co-operative. Some of the things that make co-ops a different kind of business are the fact that our members are owners and have a sa...y in how our business is run. Our profits are returned to members in the form of cash back and equity. And we give back to our communities in a big way, for example, in Melfort, since the onset of the pandemic we have made several donations to the local food bank and the SPCA, we were the title sponsor for the Canada Day fireworks and we have donated to Habitat to Humanity, and the Helicopter pad project.
