Around the World Wednesdays: Chamarel, Mauritius Chamarel is a village in the southwest of Mauritius, Africa. It is known for its scenic locations and natural wonders like the Seven Colored Earth with millions of years of history, the Chamarel Falls and the Black River Gorges National Park. The surrounding area is also known for its locally grown coffee and for the famous Rhum distillery .

Although it may look like a mountain, it is actually made up of three volcanoes. 200,000 people climb to the summit every year to experience the breathtaking sunrise and to see the beautiful Segen shrines located at the base of the mountain.
