"As a judge I love alternative sentencing especially for young people. Today I announced I would give an 18-year-old young lady a break on a speeding ticket if she brings me back proof that she voted in next Tuesday’s general election or writes 500 word essay on the importance of voting. Then I told a young 17-year=old man that if he pulled up one of his Cs to a B by his next report card I would withhold adjudication on a misdemeanor ticket. Working with teens and adults with developmental disabilities and ASD, issues related to sex and sex education come up all the time. I have not had specific training, education or supervision with work in this area, so I usually consult to others who have or refer elsewhere. In order to support my clients and their families better, I’m always learning. An easy way to gain some knowledge, insight and a list of papers and books to read on a topic is listening to pod casts! ... I listened to this one, brought to us by @behavioralobservations today and look forward to digging more into the subject and applying some of what I learned to the clients I support.
