Effective Wednesday, November 4, 2020, patients can continue to be dropped off and picked-up at the Smiths Falls Emergency Department entrance. However, we ask that for any extended waits, that you park in the Emergency Department parking lot. The parking gates will remain open between 7 am and 3 pm to allow a driver to briefly park in the lot while waiting to pick up a patient. For safety reasons, parking or extended waiting for any length of time is not permitted in the Emergency Department Entrance. This change will help us to keep the Emergency Department entrance safely accessible to ambulances and other emergency vehicles.

MDRD Week October 11- October 17 As not all hospital staff and patients are aware of the activities that occur behind closed doors, opening those doors for one day and displaying the great work that occurs within the departments makes people more aware of the Medical Device Reprocessing Departments’ importance in infection prevention and control and patient care. With focus on patient safety and quality assurance, the proper reprocessing of reusable patient care items is more important than it ever has been. Remember if nurses and physicians do not have the reprocessed medical devices to perform procedures, then patients will not receive the care they need. Thank you to our MDRD Team!

Change to In-Patient TV Service Times are changing and we are changing with them! It seems that more and more patients opt to use their own personal devices such as cell phones and tablets to access online entertainment and programs. With that in mind, the decision has been made to discontinue the in-patient television service provided by HealthHub Patient Engagement Solutions. Effective November 1, 2020, the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital (the Hospital) will ...no longer be offering in-patient television service. Cable television service will remain available in common areas of the hospital such as patient lounge and atrium areas. To help transition from the traditional television service, the Hospital has increased its internet service capabilities which will allow patients to access free internet on their own device.

The PSFDH COVID-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) has adjusted the operation of the CAC to better meet the community’s needs and has modified its hours of operation. The CAC will now be open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., seven days per week. Please note that, priority is being given to residents who have symptoms that may be related to COVID-19 when booking appointments in the CAC. PSFDH is requesting patience from the public at this time as the CAC addresses the current surge in requ...ests for testing and asks that you call only one time to the CAC phone line so as to minimize volume and demands to respond. PSFDH is also asking that no pets be brought with you while you attend your appointment. If a support animal is required, we ask that they are restrained to ensure the safety of both you and the CAC staff member. In the event that you have significant symptoms and are worried about a delay in an appointment for assessment and testing at the CAC, you may contact the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit at 1-800-660-5853 ext .2222 or Telehealth Ontario. Telehealth Ontario can be reached toll-free at (866) 797-0000 or Toll-free TTY at (866) 797-0007. Further information is available at https://www.ontario.ca//get-medical-advice-telehealth-onta. Public members can also call their own family physician or nurse practitioner for advice and guidance. In the setting of an urgent medical situation or an emergency, public members should go to one of the Emergency Departments.

Make sure to mark this on your calendar, as it’s only ONE week from today Please tune into Lake 88.1 to join the GWM Foundation and the Smiths Falls Community Hospital Foundation on Thursday, October 15 for a 12 hour radiothon. The Radiothon is running from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and it is in support of YOUR local Healthcare. From the Lake 88.1 team:... Local healthcare officials, doctors, nurses, patients and volunteers will take to the airwaves of Lake 88.1 Radio on Thursday, October 15th for a live 12-hour fundraising ‘Radiothon’ in support of our local hospitals. The station is partnering with the Almonte General Hospital/Fairview Manor Foundation, the Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Great War Memorial Hospital Foundation in Perth and the Smiths Falls Community Hospital Foundation for the second event of this kind, after having to cancel the Radiothon originally scheduled for last May because of the COVID 19 pandemic. On Radiothon day, all of the radio station’s on-air hosts will share stories from some incredible patients and volunteers whose lives have been changed and saved thanks to the generosity of local donors. The excitement of Radiothon day will also be shared online at lake88.ca. For 12 hours, from 6am to 6pm that day, the phones will be manned by volunteers who will take donations from listeners wishing to support any or all of the four partner hospital foundations.
