Bar path Why is bar path important? Because the shortest distance between two points is in a straight line! ... Have someone check your bar path next time you squat or dead-lift... lifting weight in a straight line is more efficient! Efficient movements not only decrease the risk of injury, they also maximize the potential for safely progressing weight on a given lift! Thanks to Jen Ayres for the demo! #deadlift #squat #barpath #ptbocanada #pulsephysioptbo #movementforlife

Push-ups Push-ups are a great exercise to strengthen your pecs (chest) and triceps (back of your upper arms)! They also require no equipment, so you can do them at home Think about the push-up as a moving plank!... Some technique tips: Glutes & Abs engaged Hands directly under shoulders Elbows in at your side Forearms vertical at the bottom Push-up mistakes: Don’t arch your low back Don’t flare elbows out Don’t set-up hands outside of shoulders Don’t give up! Try a variation A nice variation to work up to a full push-up is to have your hands elevated on a step, countertop or bar (like in the video)! We prefer this option to the kneeling push-up because it’s easier to focus on gluteal & abdominal engagement As you get stronger, you can keep lowering the surface that your hands are on, until you are able to do a full push-up from the floor! #pushups #strengthening #exercise #physio #pulsephysioptbo #movementforlife #ptbo #ptbocanada

Discharge day! Josh has recovered well from a right knee sprain at the end of the baseball season As with all of our clients, time of discharge depends on many factors. One of the most important factors is that they are able to safely & effectively perform the demands of the activities they are returning to!... Josh is a coach at Crossfit Kawartha & enjoys playing volleyball through the winter. With these high-level functional goals, we have to progress to & assess his ability to perform high-level movements in the clinic... Today we worked on progressions of his previous exercise program: Overhead Squats Single-leg Deadlifts Single-leg Eccentric Landing Josh reported today that he is back to 80% of his pre-injury function. He has no pain and feels comfortable returning to volleyball. Clinically, his movement patterns are safe and effective. Hence, today was discharge day! He will continue to progress his home program and should be back to in 4-6 weeks! #Squats #Deadlifts #Ptbo #EccentricStrengthening #Physio #Barbell #LegDay #PtboCanada
