Drink this hot ‘lemon-AID’ three to four times a day if you already have symptoms or enjoy a cup every morning during times where the FLU and COLD season is in high gear. Tip: It may seem sour in the beginning, try a little more honey. CONGESTION: boil one lemon cut up with half an onion in a pint of water. Cool and sip one cup 3-4 times a day. This decoction is traditionally used to help thin and reduce mucus in the chest. These remedies are not endorsed and are for your enjoyment only. What does magnesium do in real life? - Can calm our mind - Help build our bones - Relaxes our muscles, and reported to help calm twitching or tics - Some studies show a deeper more restorative sleep that allows rest and repair of the body and mind and that can help change how we react to stressful situations.... How much should I be taking? 400-800mg daily, ideally from a combination of food and supplements. Food Sources: Variety of Nuts and seeds, bananas, leafy greens, avacados, legumes, whole grains, fatty fish are high in magnesium, including salmon, mackerel and halibut. Talk to your primary health physician or Naturopathic doctor if you suspect you may need to boost your magnesium intake and whether you need a supplement for better absorption.

Did you know that Stress is actually a normal part of life? In the old days it served a useful purpose in keeping us safe - Fight or Flight! Today Stress can motivate us at work or to run the last mile of a marathon, but it was never meant to be a chronic condition. If you don't get a handle on your stress and it becomes long-term, it can seriously harm your health. Everyone deals with stress differently, the only commonality is not to let it overwhelm you. Stress can lead ...to over production of cortisol leading to weight gain, take its toll on your heart and create mental health issues. The bad news is stress is a part of life, the good news is you can learn how to change the way you view things and how you react and/or find other outlets to cope with stress. Rest and Refresh: Try to get at least eight hours of uninterrupted sleep. Products with Magnesium can helpand try good B-Complex with folic acid and Biotin. Ask your health care practitioner what's best for you.* Registered Massage Therapy: "... Brush aside any thoughts that massage therapy is only a feel-good way to indulge or pamper yourself. To the contrary, massage can be a powerful tool to help you take charge of your health and well-being, whether you have a specific health condition or are just looking for another stress reliever..." Chiropractic: Stay Well Adjusted - Stay Loose! Stress can cause the body mechanisms to lock up, relieve the symptoms of stress: proper alignment reduces pressure on the bones, relaxes the muscles and increases circulation, reducing pain and creating a sense of well-being. Counselling: Given the everyday busyness of life, it is important to slow down and take time for you and matters close to your heart. Individuals and families are encouraged to seek counselling for self-care and overall psychological and emotional well-being because the journey starts with you.

Pursuit Health 15.08.2019

Q: How can Chiropractics help relieve Stress? A: Stress can cause the body mechanisms to lock up, relieve the symptoms of stress: proper alignment reduces pressure on the bones, relaxes the muscles and increases circulation, reducing pain and creating a sense of well-being.

Pursuit Health 31.07.2019

DID YOU KNOW? Thermography offers a non-invasive way to identify and assess areas of inflammation throughout the body? Chronic inflammation is a clinical marker for a compromised immune system and possibly the onset of chronic disease even as the initial inflammatory condition may be asymptomatic for an extended period of time. (source: the Thermography Medical Clinic). Hosting Nov 25th at Pursuit Health book now. https://thermography-pursuit_health_orangeville.youcanbook.

Pursuit Health 29.07.2019

Q: Can Massage help me deal with stress? A: Massage therapy used to be thought of as only a feel-good way to indulge or pamper yourself. Recently, massage has been shown it can be a powerful tool to help you take charge of your well-being, whether you have a specific health condition or are just looking for another stress reliever. Massage is now being offered as an integrated part of traditional medicine. It's often recommended along with standard treatment for a wide range of medical conditions and life situations. Studies of the benefits of massage demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension and increasing circulation.

Pursuit Health 18.07.2019

Q: Why does a massage make you feel better? A: Research suggests that soft tissue irritation and subsequent nerve sensitization may be a major contributor to musculoskeletal pain. Massage therapists have a direct influence on the nervous system through specialized touch and techniques, that send a message to the nervous system that can mitigate pain and relax the body. Are Orthotics for me? Orthotics are designed to help with painful conditions or prevent injury. Orthotics are a custom made insert that fit in almost any shoe. They are custom because we use your foot to make an impression from which the orthotic is made. Additions can be made to the orthotic to help with certain foot, ankle or heel problems and can be beneficial at ANY age. Things to consider for overall foot health:... 1) How old are your shoes? Turn the shoe over and take a look at the wear pattern. 2) Do you experience foot or heel pain? Pain is not normal. Worn out shoes Take a look at your shoes are you wearing the soles on one side more than the other? You may pronate (foot rolls inward) or supinate (ankles turn out). Is the left shoe more worn down than the other? You may have a leg length discrepancy. You can learn a lot from your old shoes, and so can we. When a new client comes in we ask that you bring in 2 pairs of well worn shoes for us to examine. The Wet Test With wet feet, stand on a piece of newspaper or paper towel and then examine your foot print. A footprint without a c-curve in the arch could signify a pronator, and a prominent c-curve could suggest a supinator. Foot Pain You would think this one would be obvious but you would be surprised by how many people allow themselves to suffer unnecessarily with foot pain. Repeated exposure to improperly fitted footwear can cause permanent damage to your feet. High heels, pointed toes shoes, and any shoe that doesn't properly conform to the shape of your foot can cause undo stress and fatigue. If you are experiencing pain talk to someone who can help! Heel Pain Severe pain in the heel is not normal. If you are experiencing pain, particularly in the morning it could be the sign of a foot condition like Plantar fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis can be treated with orthotics, metatarsal pads, stretching and lifestyle changes. Injury to Lower Limbs If you have recently suffered an injury to your lower extremities it is important to make sure that you properly support your recovery from the ground up. A misaligned gait can cause issues with you ankles, knees, and hips.

Q: How and why should I create routine for my child? A: Children thrive in environments with routine, structure, and consistency as this creates a sense of safety, stability and trust. (contributed by Shanna-Kay Stephens RSW, MSW)... Turn off devices. Begin turning off the TV and other technological devices at least 1 hour before bedtime to reduce environmental stimulation and to create an atmosphere conducive to sleep. If that doesn't work, try turning off devices 1.5 hour before bedtime and so on. Choose a desired bedtime time. If your child's school begins at 8:30 am, start getting the child up at 7 am or 7:30 am, to give sufficient time for dressing and eating a healthy breakfast. This acts as a practice run so the child becomes acquainted with the new school routine. Keep in mind, bedtime and wake time varies from family to family depending on parents' work schedule, the distance of the child's school from home, transportation (ie. school bus, carpooling, etc.) and other factors. Whatever the agreed upon bedtime and wake time is, be consistent. It is important for your child to go bed and wake up at the same time every morning. Create a sleep ritual for children. This may involve a bath, brushing their teeth, prayer, singing a lullaby, and/or reading bedtime story. It helps children to relax and unwind before bed and prepares their body for physical rest. Communicate with children. Explain the new routine and why it is important to start early. Remind them that this is best for their health and well-being and that having a routine and structure builds a strong foundation which is critical for success in school and the real world. Praise! When your child engages in his or her routine, provide positive reinforcement. Praise your child for his or her efforts. Such verbal praise creates bonding and helps to establish a positive rapport between you and your child. Start exploring other aspects of your schedule. Discuss with partner, spouse, and/or other caregivers when homework, chores, and extracurricular activities will get done and on what days. Self-care. Life gets busy so be sure to implement some time in your routine for self-care, stress management, and spending quality time with family away from the 'busy rush of life' during the week. Question: What is IV therapy and how can it help me? Answer : Intravenous therapy is a way of delivering high doses of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients directly into your bloodstream where your body can easily and quickly access them. It's used to treat a broad range of conditions from fibromyalgia, arthritis, and immune boosting (especially with frequent infections), to cancer care and neurological disorders. They are also helpful to boost energy, balance the stress response, improve surgical recovery, improve sports performance, and relieve everyday complaints like headaches, allergies, fatigue, muscle spasms (including severe menstrual cramps), anxiety and depression, asthma and more.

Pursuit Health 29.05.2019

ASK THE NATUROPATH: with Dr. Kelly McGuire ND, B.ScH, CNP Question: Why do an IV? Can't I just take a multi-vitamin?... Answer: There are several good reasons why I might prescribe IV therapy over oral supplements: 1. Many people don’t absorb vitamins very well through their digestive system. Much of what you take orally never finds its way into your bloodstream, particularly if you have digestive troubles, or are taking medications. IV therapy ensures that nutrients get to where they’re needed. 2. Your digestive system can have a hard time with high doses of vitamins. Taking large doses of vitamin C orally, for example, might upset your stomachwith IV therapy, your body can tolerate much higher (and more helpful) amounts. 3. Your body can access the nutrients better when they’re in your bloodstream, and that means IV’s can often give us better results, faster. read more here: https://files.constantcontact.com//62210547-7e64-4e46-bc99
