As most of you know last week Provincial Health Orders put restrictions on farmers markets to no longer allow non-essential food vendors. Farmers Markets operate on a regular basis not just once or twice per year and are the storefront for many of our vendors...true small local businesses that are primarily based on the support of customers that attend our fabulous market are now not allowed to participate in the remaining dates of the year - so just like that, their Christm...as season disappeared. We understand the need to bend the pandemic curve however this has been a huge blow to the small home-based businesses, in a year already filled with challenges. We know our vendors are not alone, and that many are experiencing hardships. We do count our blessings and are thankful that the market is still open for our food and beverage vendors. Artisan and crafters have a house full of products that were being packed up and ready for winter markets. Today it was announced that the Provincial Health Order that restricts our incredible Artisan and Craft Vendors from attending our farmers market has been extended until January 7, 2021. We are hoping that there will be an amendment but until then we must do all that we can to support these small businesses. To help you understand why farmers markets are now included as a gathering and event; the reason is the seasonal weekend craft fairs that were part of the gathering and event orders and were not allowed to be held this year still went ahead because they partnered with a farmers market or called themselves a farmers market. Unfortunately to put a stop to craft fairs using this loophole farmers markets were included in the gathering and events order.

IMORTANT REMINDER to Nutrition Coupon Program participants - this SATURDAY, November 14th is the last market to spend your coupons before they expire. Please note that coupons are to only be used for the items listed on the front of the coupons. Open 8:30am until noon. COVID-19 protocols in place - send only one person per household to shop, mask wearing is encouraged and recommended however is not mandatory unless the guidelines change, please do not gather "Shop, Don't Strop", hand wash and sanitizer station provided, no public washroom available, vendor list will be posted tomorrow so that you can plan your trip to the market in advance and be efficient. A great video memory of the market before COVID-19. Some vendors are still the same, some have retired, and we have many new faces and products. This year we were smaller than usual, customers had to line up to enter, the market space was taped off, and we have been asking customers to "Shop, Don't Stop" but we have tried to have a variety of products - all while keeping our vendors, customers, volunteers and staff safe and comfortable. Even though this year the market has l...ooked and felt VERY different the purpose of the market is still the same - COMMUNITY is what we are about and providing LOCAL options where customers can come and support and buy directly from LOCAL farmers, food producers, artisan and crafters. "Meet me at the Market" will hopefully one day be a part of the market experience where customers can come, visit, sit, relax, linger and we can have music and our cafe but for now we will continue with our ESSENTIAL SERVICE MARKET.
