It's Tulip Time!!! We're so excited - our tulip order finally arrived! We're busy planting tons of tulips at Crown Ridge Long Term Care Facility in Trenton to give residents a wonderful, colourful, surprise come early spring!
Hilarious Shopping Day: This Just Happened Nothing to do with gardening but had to post it! When John was finishing up the food shopping at a local store, he was placing the bags in his vehicle.... Two cars over a young mother and her tiny tot were just approaching their car when the Mom noticed a seagull on the roof of her car. "Oh, look" she said to her daughter, "can you see the seagull?" But the child said "no, mom, I can't" as she was in her stroller and couldn't see that high. So the Mom lifted the little girl up so that she could see the bird. The little girl was amazed and giggled and laughed at the excitement of seeing the seagull! Then...the seagull pooped! Mom said "oh my goodness, it pooped on the car!" And the little girl shouted, laughing, "that's o.k., mom, I've pooped in the car also!" John smiled all the way home.
This is just hilarious! Love the creative use of the pumpkins!
Expanding Our Business: Well, the cat is out of the bag (not that she was ever in it) so here's a bit of exciting news! Last year we started receiving requests ...to design landscapes and gardens across the country, so we did. Thanks to today's technology, we're helping people all over Canada and the U.S. I love my work and meet up with the most amazing people...who are now gardening buddies! Deanna
Happy Thanksgiving! A bazillion things to be thankful for this year - good health, food on the table, a warm home, and the beauty of autumn's magnificent colours. From our home to yours, we wish you a most wonderful, peaceful and Happy Thanksgiving! Deanna and John
Great news: we started designing landscapes for customers in spring, and the news is spreading! Deanna
Nature is Beautiful! While working away, trying to save our frost-bitten Dahlia's and Canna Lilies, we had some beautiful visitors in the gardens! These gorgeous Eastern Bluebirds made our day! (not our photo)
Senior's Gardens: Phase 1 Completed Whoo-hoo! Thanks to the great weather yesterday, we finished phase one of making the senior's gardens at Crown Ridge Long Term Care Facility. Big (virtual) hugs to the residents and the "ACT's" (we don't call them care-takers, we call them AMAZING care-takers!).... We hope these gardens offer you joy, happiness and peace. Sincerely, Deanna and John Next: Phase 2 - a separate garden area for seniors
Great Progress for the Seniors! Making great progress at Crown Ridge long-term care facility in Trenton! Everyone was digging away at the new gardens - and residents were having fun watching the action! Plus the (amazing) care takers are excited about these gardens! Next post - the plants!
Keeping busy designing and installing landscapes for customers, here's the latest one!
Digging Starts Soon! The senior's garden project is on schedule and logistics worked out. There will be about 1,400 flowers going in the ground! Here are some of the blue and salmon Petunias. Can't wait!
8 Days To Go! Here's another combination that's going in the senior's gardens - black and pink Petunias. There will be about 20 of each of them in a knock-your-socks-off (I hope!) floral display!
Gardens for Seniors Countdown - 9 Days To Go! We're so excited about making the seniors' gardens and busy creating plant combinations. This is a red theme - a large flowered Petunia with white edges, a small, dainty red Petunia and white Alyssum. The bees, butterflies and Hummingbirds approve!
Flowers for Seniors! The flowers are ready to go! These beauties were grown from seed by John (gotta love him!) and will be used for the long-term care seniors' gardens. Hope this brings them a little joy! If anyone with "planting annuals" experience wants to join us - we welcome your help! The date will be on or around September 10th. Get in touch with me (Deanna) at [email protected] or call 613-398-0402 anytime.
How gardens help people...
Downey Woodpecker on the Hummingbird Feeder: Well, this is a first for us! Starting from about two weeks ago we noticed a couple of Downey Woodpeckers at our Hummingbird Feeders. Between them, the Oriole's and Hummingbirds, we're filling the 3 feeders up each day! Anyone else witness this? (not our photo)
Beautiful Datura! John grew these gorgeous, fragrant Angel's Trumpets from seed for the White Garden and they're just spectacular beside the elegant lady statuary. Looking forward to 2021 when we can share the gardens with you in person!
We're Hiring at the QBG! If you, or anyone you know, are interested in joining a great team, we're looking for garden-minded people to help us maintain the QBG in Frankford, Ontario. Full or part-time, regular folks, seniors or students, we'll train you. View our website at www.qbgardens.ca and send resume to [email protected] or call 613-398-0402.
