This is what the inside of a saturated / failed septic field looks like. The first tell tale signs are unpleasant smells as well as sewage effluent leaking out from the sides, which pose both health and sanitary risks, as well as environmental hazards and ground water contamination which will eventually end up in well water. Eventually, the septic pump will no longer be able to pump the effluent out of your septic tank, resulting in sewage back up into your basement. Not pleasant.
