Ralphy's Retreat Animal Sanctuary 21.11.2020

#TesticleTuesday It's that time of year again and we have a lofty goal to reach, so we are starting a bit earlier! Every year, Ralphy's is contacted to help neuter boars. Often, its a matter of life and death and we always move heaven and earth to assist.... Neuter surgeries cost between $400 and $500 and it is a huge financial burden on us. We hate to pull the Covid card, but it really has affected our ability to fundraise, as well as caused many donors to cease their support. One thing Covid hasn't slowed down is the number of pigs in need. We are getting more calls than ever :( Last year we raised $2800 to neuter pigs and this year we want to smash it! The next neuter surgery is December 2nd for a lovely young man who was going to be sent to slaughter (yes, that does happen to pet pigs too :() simply because he is a boar. We will introduce you to him over the coming days, as well as share some stories of the other lovely boys who have benefitted from your support. TO DONATE: Every $10 puts a ball on our tree. E-transfer your donation to [email protected] or visit our website at https://www.ralphysretreat.ca/get-involved and hit the Donate button :) MAKE IT A GIFT: This year we will happily email you a printable card to use as stocking stuffers or Christmas gifts. Please email us at [email protected] to get your card. Be sure to include the name of who the gift is for and mark the subject of your email #TesticleTuesday. Thank you for your support

#TesticleTuesday Today we added one more ball to our tree, bringing us another step closer to meeting our goal <3 Why is our goal so important? Well, that would be so we can help more pigs like Abe.... Abe Lincoln joined our family earlier this year after spending the first few month of his life living in squalor and being starved. Thankfully, an angel stepped in and he found his way to Ralphy's. Abe was not a nice citizen when he arrived! His little boar hormones ruled his life and he made a proper nuisance of himself, mounting anyone and everything he could! It sounds funny, but in reality Abe was stuck. He couldn't live with another pig as he kept jumping on them, and he couldn't put on any weight because his energy levels were through the roof. He needed to be neutered. In most cases, neuter surgery is fairly straight forward and just days later hormones settle and the piggy can meet new friends. Of course, Abe was never going to be easy! His first surgery attempt had to be aborted, but two weeks later we had success! Today, Abe lives with Brian George and Lego. The three Musketeers are all around the same age and have similar interests. Its a match made in heaven <3 Without your support, Abe might still be a boar, living a lonely life. So for all the Abe's out there who will find their way to Ralphy's, please consider putting a ball on our tree! Every $10 makes a huge difference <3 Donate via e-transfer to [email protected] or through our website at www.ralphysretreat.ca/get-involved Thank you!

#TesticleTuesday Wow! Less than a week and you've already helped us pass 1/3 of our goal Thank you so much to everyone who has added a ball or two to our tree. Tank's surgery on December 2nd is paid for and that feels so good!!!... Its been a busy week at Ralphy's that has involved neglect cases, abandoned piglets, and a rooster needing a home. Everyone is safe, but this campaign is more important than ever as we know there are some big vet bills coming. Please keep sharing and let's hope we need a bigger Christmas tree

There might be nothing cuter than a piglet experiencing pumpkin for the first time Nettle was pretty excited, but not quite sure what to make of the taste

There is nothing worse than receiving a phone call about a piglet in a crate being offered for free as bacon. I'm beyond grateful to the gentleman who took her home to safety and to his wife who called us for help. Turns out there is something worse though. It's finding out this sweet, young piglet is in fact about to become a mother. ... There are days when I despair of the human race and then I meet wonderful people who go above and beyond. It's them and the lives we save that keep me going. Please welcome Nettle to Ralphy's Retreat. Life is going to get so much better sweetheart *Please note the corn is a treat and not her diet.
