As we enter into the yellow-protect level we want our customers to know the following info Our max capacity we are allowing indoors is half the requirement that the Ontario government is allowing at the protect level (25 seats/ 8 tables that are rarely full all at once - this new enforcement caps public events and gatherings at 50). On another note: We’ve always maintained our table max reservation at six people. Anyone looking to book over this requires 6ft between eac...h table just like everyone else who dines in our space. Hi everyone Thats @tylerjonscott & I seven months ago on our grand reopening day after we closed for the entire month of January to renovate We have some new followers lately and I wanted to take a second to let you know a little bit about our story Tyler worked at Rare Grillhouse for six years under chef @publican_brad. On September 1st 2019 we signed some papers and took over ownership of the restaurant. It was incredibly important to us to carry on the legacy tha...t Katie & Brad created so we enlisted @pioneer_inc to help us with a re-brand and an interior makeover. On February 1st 2020 we opened the front door to Rare and it was magical We werent open long before the pandemic turned the world upside down, but we have been working ourselves to the bone to make sure that this spectacular place survives Tyler is the reason our business has stayed afloat. His positive attitude and persistent drive is truly inspirational. Weve pivoted many times since March. At first we offered a burger & sandwich takeout menu that changed weekly (remember that?! feels like so long ago!) and then eventually we launched the pop up patio in our back parking lot with our classic Rare menu which lasted the entire summer. So many fabulous memories. Last week we officially closed our patio and launched our dining room to welcome a change of season. Its been overwhelming to see our customers enjoying Rare the way we always intended it to be and our hearts feel so full to have had the support of our customers through it all Which brings us here again. At the front door. For so long weve invited you to come to the back door that it feels strange to ask you to join us through the front. But today Im proud to change up this routine again because its the foundation on which our small business began. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for cheering us on. Since the beginning of the pandemic our kitchen crew has had a unique vinyl setup. It started with a couple records here and there. Eventually it grew into so much more. An obsession if you will. We can’t count how many times we’ve been to Blue Streak since March Recently Tim hooked us up with these incredible totem rainmaker speakers for the dining room so that we can jam everywhere in the restaurant. Music has truly helped us cope with the weight of Covid-19. Coming in with some bittersweet news. Sad to announce that tonight & tomorrow evening will be the last for the #rarebacklotpatio This pop-up patio has been a memory we wont soon forget. The first time ever in Rare history that the back parking lot transformed into a dining space. Some of our customers even related it to experiences they have had in Europe. We truly never imagined that this would be a possibility. And what an incredible opportunity it has been We knew... that September would bring Fall weather, but we pushed on into the month with a positive mindset to see how far we could go. Unfortunately space heaters dont make sense for our temporary setup, especially for only a couple more weeks - but cold weather aside - we feel like its time to celebrate the end of this chapter and look forward to our future with the changes that this season will bring Tyler and I have so many people to thank. Our landlord for allowing us to use this space. The tenants and business owners who also made sacrifices so that we could pop up everyday for 5pm. Our employees for your strength and smiles through all of this hard work - set up and break down every day on top of regular service. We know your muscles are jelly and we can never thank you enough. He let me cook on the Jim Bowie mini smoker this weekend and it’s kind of a huge deal. Mainly because I never cook (actually terrible at it) - I mean why would I practice when my husband is the chef around here?! But to be honest I’m starting to get tired of that excuse - I’m a badass and I’m pretty sure I could work the smoker if I really tried to Sometimes I want to be the person that takes care of my person with comfort food. I can be stubborn, especially when I ma...ke my mind up about something I want to change and I really don’t like to ask for help because I struggle to be independent. Especially when it comes to cooking. Not a good match when your partner is a chef for a living Anyways - I demanded to make our lunch at the trailer with fire in my eyes and he agreed. We had beautiful Waygu burgers from @onefinefood. And even though it probably made him cringe on the inside watching me figure it out - he let me. And that my friends is true love. I didn’t burn or overcook them and @tylerjonscott got to relax for once It’s never too late. I will absolutely let him cook for me for the rest of my life, but the satisfaction of doing things myself here and there feels pretty darn good. #foodisourlovelanguage

Its been a while. This photo is from February 2020 taken by the lovely @ashnaylerphotography on our re-launch a day after our renovation was completed by our friends @lumbermen_carpentry I remember standing in the dining room amongst the tables with @tylerjonscott - in the middle of a heated argument having a small anxiety attack. We were deciding how many tables we could set along our fancy new banquet. He said ten. I said that was too many - our customers would be too cl...ose - I was afraid of what they might think. I was afraid to change it up. Our customers might not understand. He said lets do something different - nothing good comes from staying inside of our comfort zone. This is our story. This is our chance to do the unexpected. He was right. I think about this every day. We had no idea what was coming. But how could we know? We were open for a month and shortly after closures began That gorgeous green seat is coming alive again. This time with less tables, but seeing our space being used for more than just a storage space for patio equipment takes my breath away. It brings happy tears to my eyes. Weve been working tirelessly to prepare to open our dining room with a revised seating plan. Tyler has spent so much energy making sure that it will be perfect given the circumstances. We have sat back with patience since the third stage of reopening was announced and we have carefully waited and weighed our options. We have decided that its time for us to begin our final stages of making this dine-in option a reality for our customers who wish to take a seat in the space we love so much. We will continue to run our patio for as long as we can so please do not worry! Weve worked so hard to make the pop-up patio a reality for our customers and so long as the weather cooperates it will be there for you to enjoy. Just about back to PTBO after an early am pack up. Weve made some big changes this summer and one of them has been to make sure that we spend more time together as a family away from the restaurant. Its really hard to separate both lives, but were already feeling the positive affect on our mental health. I love our GoPro camping pictures. A great shot of @tylerjonscott cooking dinner on the mini @greenmountaingrills smoker on his day off Tyler is constantly on the go. Hes usually gone for the day by 8:30am to get his never-ending-list of things done before the restaurant opens (right now its a bit bigger than usual). There is always something being added to the shopping list and this is the guy that happily spends his days doing it. These errands are more intense throug...h the pandemic - what used to be IN and OUT in a flash is no longer the norm. Hes patient and understanding and spends a lot of his time standing in line and always offers a laugh to the employee helping him out behind the cash register Sometimes we are so busy at the restaurant that we forget to stop him to say a genuine thank you for holding it all together. He always saves the day with something we realized last minute that we are out of. Pulling in last minute with goods from our friends @onefinefood (Are you sick of him yet?! He is there every single day no joke) or random LCBO hauls to make sure we can make those delicious cocktails you love. He jumps right into service and works all night like its no big deal. We snuck away with the girls to our happy place for a couple of days over the long weekend. It rained the whole time but it was the perfect setting for some rest and relaxation with our little family. We are back home unpacking our Moose Caboose *the name we dubbed our tent trailer (Izzy saw her first moose on our first family trip with it so the name was inspired by that) We celebrated our anniversary with this beautiful + delicious bottle of pink champagne (hitting the menu this week!) and we flipped through @tylerjonscotts newest cook book by @hseanbrock Were back at the restaurant tomorrow resuming our regular business hours!
