Members of the #RCMP #Ontario #ODivision Cornwall Detachment and their Canada Border Services Agency partners joined efforts in helping the community they serve by organizing a food drive during the month of December. Given the RCMP’s visible marine presence in the area, this initiative was dubbed Pack a Zodiac. A total of 3,966lbs of non-perishable food was donated to the Agapè Centre in Cornwall. The amount of food collected speaks to the generosity of the community in these times of need, and we would like to thank everyone who made a donation. A special thank you to the James & Jenn’s No Frills for their generous donation and for allowing the food collection to take place at their Cornwall store. #LawEnforcement #CommunityPolicing #HappyHolidays ^bh

Toys for the North delivered into the hands of many happy children in Canada’s remote north Toys for the North is an #RCMP O Division (Ontario) led initiative in partnership with the Canadian Toy Association (CTA) and Thomson Terminals Limited with air transportation support from the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). The campaign celebrated its tenth anniversary this year and delivered a record breaking amount of toys to children in some of Canada's most remote regions. $265,0...00 worth of toys were distributed to over 30 communities in the areas surrounding Thunder Bay (Ontario), Happy Valley-Goose Bay (Newfoundland and Labrador), Iqaluit (Nunavut) and Yellowknife (Northwest Territories). The RCMP would like to thank each and every one of the toy manufacturers who donated toys and Mastermind Toys for providing all of the gift wrap. In addition to our main partners and RCMP families and friends, there are many helpers in each of the regions that we want to thank: RCMP Veterans Association for their continued support over the past decade; North Star Air, Gardewine (Freight Transportation) and Indigenous Services Canada for assisting us in northern Ontario; Thanks to Child and Family Services, the recreation commission of Pond Inlet, Canadian North, DND Iqaluit Detachment, Iqaluit Air Services and local schools in Kinngait, Kugluktuk and Pond Inlet for all of your help in Nunavut; Jeremias Sillett Community Centre in Nain for everything you did for us in Newfoundland and Labrador and; Nunavut RCMP Air Services and Joint Task Force North 440 Air Squadron for your assistance in the Northwest Territories. One of our proud RCMP supporters in Ontario recently shared some photos with us of her unique Canadian Christmas yard display which helped to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the amalgamation of the Royal North-West Mounted Police and the Dominion Police and renamed the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. In 2023 the RCMP will be celebrating its 150th year and acknowledges the 100th year of the Royal North-West Mounted Police and the Dominion Police becoming the Royal Canadian M...ounted Police as just one milestone in our very long history. Did you know? The RCMP is the only police organization in Ontario mandated with the enforcement of the Excise Act (2001). This Federal Statute covers the imposition of the excise duty on the distribution and purchase of specific products, namely tobacco, alcohol and cannabis. For tobacco and cannabis products to be legal for sale in Canada, an excise stamp has to be affixed to them (as displayed in the picture). Contraband products smuggled through the CAN-US border generall...y do not have the excise duty paid for and are considered illegal. Several organized crime groups profit from the sale of those contraband products and use that money to support other criminal enterprise. An individual found guilty of an offence under the Excise Act (2001) faces hefty fines and/or a prison sentence. The vehicle used in the smuggling offence is also subject to seizure. Should you have information pertaining to the sale of contraband products, please contact your local RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers. #Ontario #ODivision #RCMP #FederalPolicing #LawEnforcement #Police #OffTheStreets #Tobacco #IllegalTobacco ^JF

We applaud the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) apology for their historical declaration to oppose decriminalizing homosexuality in the late 1960s. Acknowledging wrongdoing and working to ensure that it doesn’t happen again is the cornerstone of our commitment to diversity, equity & inclusion. We have taken many positive steps for a welcoming, safe work environment for our employees and we will continue to build bridges with the 2SLGBTQ+ community that we serve.... On International Human Rights Day, we are reminded that we must be vigilant in protecting and defending human rights. ^JT To read the apology issued by the CACP visit www.cacp.ca #HumanRightsDay # InternationalHumanRightsDay

Toys for the North announces second consecutive record-breaking donations provided by the Canadian toy industry: $265,000 in donated toys will be distributed to families across Canada’s northern communities for the holiday season Toys for the North is an initiative run in partnership by the Canadian Toy Association (#CTA), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (#RCMP), Royal Canadian Air Force (#RCAF) and logistics supplier Thomson Terminals. The program, which celebrates its te...nth anniversary this year, works to provide children’s toys to families in some of Canada’s most remote regions who cannot access or often afford children’s toys during the holiday season. This the 2nd year in a row donations provided by the Canadian toy industry to the Toys for the North have set an annual record. Donations in 2019 set an annual record of $100,000 which was a 100% increase from the previous year. In 2020, donations to the program increased by more than 165% year-over-year, demonstrating a growing recognition and understanding of the program's importance for the communities and families it supports. Since 2010, Toys for the North has distributed over $650,000 worth of toys to families in Northern parts of Labrador, Manitoba, Nunavut and Ontario who cannot otherwise access or afford toys for their children for the holiday season. This year, toys will be distributed to over 30 communities in the areas surrounding Thunder Bay, Goose Bay and Iqaluit, including Grise Fiord, the most northern permanent settlement in Canada and one of the coldest inhabited regions in the world. Toys for the North also aims to serve three additional communities in the Northwest Territories this year. The 2020 Toys for the North program has been made possible by generous donations from numerous businesses. Find out more at rcmp-grc.ca/81063 #ToysForTheNorth ^JF

On November 25th, the #RCMP #ODivision #Ontario Kingston Shiprider Unit conducted a joint training exercise with 424 Transport and Rescue Squadron. Kingston Shipriders coordinated with the CC-130H Hercules Aircraft Commander to convene in their open RIB patrol vessel at predetermined coordinates on Lake Ontario. Once there, the aircraft first dropped smoke markers near the vicinity of the RCMP vessel to help with wind assessment and positioning. They then parachuted in a pump and two sea kits (life rafts) that were retrieved from the water by the Shiprider officers on the patrol vessel. From the video, you can see that weather and sea conditions were less than ideal, but it was still an excellent training experience for both the RCMP and 424 Sqn. #FederalPolicing #LawEnforcement #Police ^bh

RCMP Ontario O Division Case Study The #RCMP #Ontario #ODivision Cybercrime Investigative team received reports at the beginning of #Covid19 that credit union customers were being targeted through Google Ad words in order to obtain login information. Victims were clustered geographically at first and then the incident moved eastward from BC and Alberta. The number of compromised accounts was minimal due to the security of the credit unions, however there still were victims ...and money was obtained. The impact was severe for some. In the end, the attacks slowed on their own, but the O Division Cybercrime Investigative team were able to promote the safety precautions as listed by Google and others. The Cybercrime Investigative Team are in the process of looking at Indicators of Compromise (IOC) which are defined as pieces of forensic data, such as data found in system log entries or files, that identify potentially malicious activity on a system or network. For these attacks, looking at IOC’s allows the team to see if there are patterns that would enable a coordinated approach to dealing with these kinds of attacks with our domestic and international partners. #combatcybercrime #CSAM ^bh

Provincial and Municipal Police forces of jurisdiction include any police force within Canada, outside of the RCMP such at the Ontario Provincial Police, Toronto Police Service and the SVPM. These police forces are responsible for investigating cybercrime activities that fall within their jurisdictional boundaries. For instance, if someone is the victim of an online scam, they would have to report it to their local police force of jurisdiction, who would investigate. Given t...hat these complaints may cross jurisdictional or even international boundaries, the police force responsible for the investigation may seek assistance from agencies such as the National Cybercrime Coordination Unit. If the investigation falls under the Federal Policing mandate, the #Ontario #ODivision Cybercrime team may be the ones assisting police forces of jurisdiction with their investigations. #combatcybercrime #CSAM ^bh See more

The RCMP lays charges against an individual for making and uttering false documents Following an 18-month investigation conducted in conjunction with Corporations Canada (#CC) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (#RCMP) Financial Crime Unit, Ottawa Detachment, a man was charged with making and uttering false documents. In April 2019, an investigation called Project OBLARE was launched by the RCMP’s Financial Crime Unit following receipt of pertinent information regarding su...spicious activities related to the making and uttering of false documents. This information indicated that the names and personal addresses of two individuals appeared as members of the board of directors on the corporate website of a corporation when the individuals in question had no connection with it. Thanks to the meticulous work of the RCMP investigators, other documents were uncovered, such as false minutes made and uttered for malicious purposes, compromising the identity of these two individuals. Christopher-Maik Bernier (age 29) of McDonalds Corners, Ontario, faces the following charges: Forgery (making a false document) contrary to the Criminal Code; Uttering, possession or trafficking of a forged document, contrary to the Criminal Code; Containing false information, contrary to the Canada Business Corporations Act. The success of this investigation demonstrates the commitment of the RCMP to its work in partnership with other federal agencies as reflected in the great contribution of the Canada Revenue Agency and Corporations Canada in this matter, stated Staff Sergeant Ronald Lauzon, responsible of the Financial Crime Unit at the Ottawa Detachment. #Ontario #ODivision #CRA #FederalPolicing #LawEnforcement #Police rcmp-grc.ca/79585 ^LL
