Scary moments on Vancouver Island as a man is rescued from Little Qualicum Falls. The team managed to rescue the man from the river in Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park on Vancouver Island after he fell Saturday afternoon. Crews agree it was one of the most high-risk, dangerous operations they've seen in some time. Great work Arrowsmith SAR!

Two crew members on a bulk carrier anchored in Vancouver's English Bay were seriously injured after a lifeboat unexpectedly plunged into the water during a drill on Tuesday. According to the Canadian Coast Guard, the accident happened at about 1:15 p.m. Both crew members were on the lifeboat when it was released from the ship, and it was sinking when rescuers were called. Coast guard officers, the Vancouver Police Department's marine unit and the Vancouver Port Authority all responded to the mayday call.

A dramatic rescue today as SAR2 responded to a mayday call from a small vessel taking on water in Vancouver Harbour. Thankfully both passengers were ok and the vessel was towed back to Cates Park.

Too much partying on boats in Indian Arm. "We advise against people creating a confrontation with someone they feel has done something wrong," said Sgt. Peter Devries of North Vancouver RCMP. Devries says the two RCMP boats will respond, though it may take time. He said they also have the support of others, including the Coast Guard, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue and the Vancouver police boat.

Kamloops Search and Rescue is urging residents to be safe during outdoor activities in the coming months, because they're concerned they may run out of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face masks, which would leave them unable to attend to searches. If they don't have enough PPE needed for the call, they can't go, and another team in the area will be called to do the search. Yochim said two search teams in B.C. have been told to stand down on searches this year because they had run out of PPE.

Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue Station 2 North Vancouver 07.03.2020

A big shout out and thanks to District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue for providing PPE to RCMSAR 2 during this time of shortages. Truly great partners in serving the community.

You will not read the word COVID in this story! Octopuses are "incredibly smart" but that it's not known why they collect shiny objects, much like crows and ravens. "Is it because they are home decorators and they have their own version of HGTV that they like to watch, or is it that they are building little defences around their den, or is it for some other purpose? It's just really hard to know what their intention is," he said
