Re-Elect Judy Hunda for Trustee of the Rainbow District School Board 08.11.2020

Here's a summary of Ford and Lecce's school opening announcement. We are floored that our youngest are being put in the largest class sizes, granting them the f...ewest protections. A reminder that we have over 2 million students in this province to share the funding they have announced. When Lecce says that they are hiring 500 nurses, what he means is that about 10% of schools will have access to nurses. For the lists of schools, designated boards will have secondary part time, while non-designated boards could have secondary back full time. After months to prepare they've only given our children 10% of what they need for safety. Shame!

Education funding is complicated, but there is 1 really good measure of whether funding is increasing our decreasing, the per pupil funding. Per pupil funding i...s how much the government funds each and every student in our schools. That number doesn’t include special education funding, transportation and other lines, but it’s a base that every student receives. In this graphic you will find the funding for September compared to the last 2 years. Some observations: We worked hard with education workers to fight back against deep cuts, and while we didn’t completely win, we made real progress. High school students are still dealing with deep funding cuts and the e-learning related funding cuts haven’t even been implemented yet. Some lines look similar year to year, meaning students aren’t even getting inflationary adjustments. How are we going to fund smaller, safer classes during the pandemic with no real growth in funding?
