I think back to all the strange things I have seen, and some of it have done, and wonder how I ever got some of those results. Horses are such amazingly kind ...animals if treated with respect. They are mind readers. Whatever mood you show at the barn in, your horse will hook up with in about 2-3 seconds. Most riders today ride like they can out muscle or intimidate a horse into being a reliable show horse. Not the strongest person in the world is as strong as a horse. When riders think, stupid horse, do it now! The horse thinks OMG I don’t know what you want ! And anything can happen, from being mad to being lazy or to being explosive explosive! We train these animal to do 8 maneuvers and a multitude of other small movements, and when they get confused and they get punished to severely for making a mistake they will lose confidence. You may get a fast spin or a long slide , but I can almost guarantee that you will also get pinny ears and swinging tails! When you give a horse a signal always wait three seconds before you add pressure. A happy horse is so much easier that a grumpy one! Is your horse grumpy? Try to figure out why. Maybe it’s you !
